Chapter 6 - First Round

Bootcamp yeah that's right! I think it was in Miami, but I'm not sure. Anyone care to tell me? For now it's gonna be in Miami. Yay!

Btw this is kinda a fillet chapter but a whole wad of shits gonna happen in the next chapter yeah.

Chapter 5 (first round)

One week later

Still no sign of my mom or dad. Cole an the rest of the group have been staying at our house with us, and there's been talk that I was going to move to Costa Mesa with my Auntie, or maybe to Huntington Beach with the boys, or back to Newport with Nicky. Nothing has been decided, but there's a good chance that I'd be moving to California, which is wonderful to me.

Through the last week, I have literally been hanging out with the boys, Nicky, and Chris the whole time. We would skate, go to malls and get kicked out of stores, jam together, and throw parties that involved just us.

I had also grown close with Chris. He is such a lovely guy. He's really sweet and pretty chill, honestly. Sometimes I wonder how he fits in and is popular at our super mainstream school. I feel like he should be a Californian not a Floridan or whatever. Sometimes I felt like he would be kinda flirty, but then I thought that maybe he's this way with every girl. Who knew.

I looked at my outfit, dark jeans with a cut top and combat boots. Way out of my comfort zone, and extremely flashy, for me, but Ari insisted on it, and she basically just lost her mom and dad so it's all I could do to make her happy. I walked into the livingroom where I saw Keaton, Wes, and Drew with all their bags.

"You ready?" Wes asked.

"Yeah. Lets go." We grabbed all our bags and stuff and piled them into a taxi, and left Nicky, Cole, and Ari at home.

We got to the place where the competition was taking place and were assigned a hotel room. I was rooming with the boys, since I put them as my guardians becasue mine were out of the picture. We unpacked quickly and went straight to rehersals, which involved me going outside out building with my guitar and practicing.

The forest round was contestants choice, so I chose We Are Young by Fun. I sat down in the grass with my back against a tree and strummed and few chords. After I was warmed up, I sung a few notes and got to the start or the song. I decided to make a slower version of it so there was no rush and I was only doing part of the first verse and chorus, because it could only be a minuet long.

I strummed the first few chords of the song "Give a second I, I need to get my story straight my friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State..." I laughed quietly at that part, because I do have friends that get high (cough) Wes (cough) Drew (cough) Cole (cough) Nicky, so pretty much Keaton and I were the only ones that didn't store weed under our beds. I laughed a bit

More in my head before giving my attention back to my guitar.

"My lover she is waiting for me just across the bar my seats been taken by some sunglasses asking bout a scar..."

Oh I'm gonna have to arrange this differently.

"But tonight we are young. So I set the world on fire we can burn brighter than the sun..."

Perfect I thought. I liked the short arrangement I made and it flowed better than I hopped. Hopefully the judges think the same. I ran throug the song many more times until I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Hey, Shay," I heard Keaton say sweetly from behind me.

"Hey Keat," I said turning around to look at him.

"How's it going?" He said as he took at seat next to me.

"Great! What about you?"

"The songs pretty much perfect, but Wes and Drew are getting a bit intense."

"I understand. Hey, let's go for a skate!" I said popping straight up to my feet.

"Oh my god that sounds like heaven right now!" He said jumping up as well.

"Okay meet me back here in 10."

"We room together."

"Right, ha lets go." We ran to the room and grabbed our boards and quickly told Wes and Drew where we were going.

We went straight to the same skate park that we went to the first time we went skating. It had a good amount of people there, but not too many. Just a perfect amount so it wasn't awkward with three people but not overly packed.

"Race ya to the half pipe!" Keaton yelled and sped off.

"It's on bro!" I yelled back. We raced as fast as we could to the big half pipe and Keaton almost fell in a bowl once, which caused me to laugh and almost fall into one myself. Karma.

We got there and he went down first flipping his board at the other end. I went down after without doing any tricks just to warm up.

"Come on Shay I've seen better!" Someone yelled. I turned to the voice and saw a tall boy with long brown hair smile at me. I laughed. Of course. The one and only Chris Jauregui. I went down the half pipe again flipping my board twice on the other side.

"How's that?"

"Much better."

"Thought so," I said as I came down with Keaton at my side to meet Chis at a bowl. He greeted me with a friendly hug and Keaton with a bro handshake thing. I've never understood those.

"Aren't you guys supposed to be at bootcamp?" He asked.

"Yeah, but we finished practicing early and Wes and Drew were getting intense," Keaton said.

"Oh."

"Yeah, so I see you've started to pick up skating," I said to him.

"Yeah. It's pretty sick. I haven't really skated since like middle school. No on really does it anymore."

"Sucks bro. They're really missing out," Keaton said.

"Totally man. I love this and since you," he said looking at me. "Are my only friend that skates. We gotta hang out more."

"Yeah sweet I'd love to." That wasn't even a lie. I've come to like this boy over the last week. I wouldn't mind spending more time with him really. That is, if I don't move back to California. I wonder if he knows I might move? Whatever we haven't know each other for long so I doubt it would impact him life, and besides that he was popular and he had all the friends in the world.

We skated around for the next few hours and just chilled. It was super fun ad I was so relaxed and happy. It was crazy. Keaton finally got a text from Wes saying they are going to start the actual bootcamp process in less than an hour so we had to leave. I said bye to Chris and he said bye to Keaton and I and wished us luck.

"Can we have Shay Hale preform now?" LA said from the judges table. I stood up and grabbed a mic from a crew member.

"Ah, Miss. Hale. I remember your audition quite well. You were one of the better teens," Simon said with a straight face.

"Thank you," I said quietly in the mic.

"Whenever your ready," Britney said.

I nodded. The Music started to play. "Give me a second I, I need to get my story straight my friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State..." I quickly turned and winched at Wes and Drew and saw them chuckle before turning back to the judges. "My lover he is waiting for me just across the bar my seats been taken by some sunglasses asking bout a scar. But tonight we are young. So I set the world on fire we could burn brighter than the sun." I repeated the chorus once more and nodded and.thank you before I sat down. The judges whispered to each other before calling up the next acts.
