Samantha was packing up her things when Nathan walked up behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her neck gently.
"Thank you..." He whispered in her ear.
"Your welcome... I love you," she replied.
"I love you, too" He replied, as he helped her pack and bring their suitcases to the car. "You know, we are going to have to ditch the car later and get a new one, right? Or walk, if you don't want to, you know, steal a car..."
"It's fine, I mean I don't want to lose you..." she stated.
"I don't want to lose you, either." He said, as he got into the driver's side and started the engine. "Tell me again, why we are taking your parents really old station wagon? They don't even make parts for this thing anymore..."
"Because no one will be looking for it, of course," she answered.
"Right..." He shook his head and chuckled, as he backed out of the driveway. "California, here we come!"
"I think we ought to go to a State that doesn't have the death penalty, don't you?" she suggested.
"Uh, right..." He blinked, as he kept his eyes on the road. "How about... Nevada? There's lot of open space there..."
"Sounds good to me," she stated, kissing him.
He kissed her back and grinned. "Nevada, here we come!" He exclaimed, as he turned the car to get on the highway.
****Hours later****
"Where are we going to sleep, babe?" Samantha inquired.
Nathan shook his head. "No idea. I have a little money saved up, but it's... kind of in jars in the trunk..."
He pulled over into a gas station, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and parked the car in the parking lot. He got out and opened the trunk. There were eight huge jars of coins under a blanket.
Samantha's eyes widened when she got out and saw what was in the trunk. "That's a "little" money?" She asked, disbelieving what she was seeing.
"Well..." He said. "I did save up 50 jars once, so yeah, this is a little less than that. My dad and I saved those 50 jars together." He looked down at the jars sadly, as he remembered how much fun he had with his father.
"So could we rent an apartment?" she asked, looking at the money.
"When we get to Nevada? Sure." He said. "Also... I'm starving. Let's go inside and find something to eat. We can get snacks and drinks for the road, as well."
Samantha nodded. "Ok. Yeah, I'm hungry, too." She reached into the backseat and brought out Meimo.
Nathan pointed at the sign. "Sorry, babe. No pets allowed inside."
Samantha sighed and put her cat back inside it's crate. "Don't worry, Meimo. We'll bring you something to eat, soon."
Nathan smiled at her and slipped his hand into hers as they walked up to the small store. He opened the door and walked inside. When he looked around at all the food, his stomach growled.
Samantha giggled. "Someone's hungry."
"You got that right." He said as he grabbed a basket and started filling it with food. He handed her a basket. "Go pick out some drinks and meet me at the counter, ok?"
Samantha nodded and walked to the coolers. "Ok." She said over her shoulder, as she walked away.
Nathan watched her walk away for a minute, before continuing to fill his basket with food. He picked out lots of Twinkies, Donuts, Chips, nuts, etc, etc. By the time he got to the counter, his basket was really full.
The cashier's eyes widened when Nathan walked up to the register. "Do you have enough money for all of that?" The cashier inquired.
Nathan placed down two hundred dollars on the counter. "Would that be enough?"
The cashier looked at the money for a second and shrugged. "Let's find out."
He started ringing up all the food, as Samantha came up and placed her basket of drinks on the counter. "Do you have enough money for all this?" She asked Nathan.
Nathan smiled and put an arm around her. "Of course, babe."
"Did you get milk for Meimo?" she asked.
"Yes I did." he answered.
"That'll be $90," the cashier said.
Nathan pays him and then he and Samantha went back to the car.
