Nathan went to Alex's room. "Hey I brought your chemo bag."

"Thanks," Alex muttered. Nathan hooked up the iv with the chemo and attached it to Alex. Alex needed daily chemo and had no hair left now.

"Dad, I'm trying to fight this, but it's hard," Alex admitted. His face was pale and his limbs and body scrawny.

"I know son, I know."

That very night...

"NO FREDRICK NO! TAKE ME INSTEAD!" Nathan shouted in his sleep.

Samantha shook him awake. "Nathan, calm down, the war is over now."

"I should have died, I'm not a good man, I killed people!"

"Nathan don't talk like that, you saved many lives to make up for that," Samantha answered.

"I guess..." He sighs.

"Honey," she says as she holds him tightly, "You need to move on."

"I love you," he says as he kisses her.

"I love you too,"she responded.

He gets out of bed and takes a sip of scotch.

"I hate it when you drink dear."

He takes another sip. "I'm sorry."

He sets the glass down. "I'm going outside."

He walks outside and holds his head. "Ow..." his vision blurs. "Oh God... I can't breathe...." He passes out.

"Is he going to be alright?" Samantha asks the Doctor.

"I'm afraid he may have lung cancer."

"How long does he have?"

"Five years maybe less or more."

****

"Samantha why are you crying?" Nathan asks.

"You have lung cancer."

"How bad is it?" Nathan asked calmly.

"Slightly advanced, but still in the early stages," Samantha answered.

"Well that's good I suppose," Nathan stated.

"Yea, you'll likely live 10 to 15 years..."

He sees her tears and embraces her. "Hey, I'll be fine, we'll make it through this, I promise."
