Cecil was left sitting alone on the hospital bed. He had his hands folded neatly in his lap. the tentacles had long since retreated into his back. His eyes were downcast, staring at his socks, which were white with lavender soles. His head was hanging low on his neck. Cecil was mumbling in some ancient tongue that only he could decipher. Suddenly the doorknob clicked. His head shot up.
"Carlos?" Cecil asked, his eyes were glimmering with hope. But it wasn't Carlos who walked in. It was Dana. She had her purple turban wrapped around her head, one brown curl hanging in front of her forehead.
"Cecil?" She asked quietly. "I heard you weren't doing okay... are you alright?" Her big brown eyes were filled with concern. She took a cautious step into the room, closing the door behind her. Cecil didn't look up from his hands. Dana sat down next to him. It was quiet. Dana exhaled and bumped Cecil's shoulder.
"So, how's the radio job?" She asked. Cecil looked at her knee and internally smiled.
"Good..good." He responded.
"And Carlos?"
"...not so great. With this whole cancer thing, it's kinda put him on edge. It's been rough."
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that." Dana said. She inhaled to speak, but her phone gave off a sharp beeping sound. "Oh, I need to get going. There's a trial with Hiram McDaniel's starting in a few minutes. I have to be there." She stood up and gave Cecil a pat on the shoulder. "Uhm, you'll be okay. But I wouldn't try to explain it to Carlos or anything. I wouldn't want you to upset him." And she left from the room. Cecil pondered about what she had said. Not talking to Carlos about his ordeal. Anyways, Cecil wanted to focus on the bakery. And Carlos. And keeping their whole relationship together. There was a soft knock at the door. A nurse stepped in carrying a bottle of orange pills. Cecil sighed.
"Are you ready?" She asked. Cecil nodded. She handed him two pills and a glass of water. Cecil could feel the pills sliding down his throat. He swished the medicine taste away with a few shots of water and gave the items back to the nurse. She smiled and took them gratefully. "I know you'll be okay soon..." She said. The doorknob clicked shut and Cecil was encased in blinding darkness again. He took a moment to reflect on the past events. He felt guilty about lashing out at Carlos and awaited his return.
