KAKASHI POV
I leaned against a wall in the hospital, head down, thinking. What had happened to her? She was up on the roof for maybe five minutes, and she looked as if she had been ambushed. And what was that black stuff coming from her wounds? It couldn't have been blood, could it? I shook my head and rubbed my face. While I had started enjoying her company, she seemed to just ooze bad luck, and I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with that on top of my own issues, even if I did just try to ignore them.
"Um, Hatake-san." I looked up with a start to see a nurse. I nodded for her to continue, and her face paled slightly as she looked at the clipboard in her hand. "Well, about the lady you brought in... We managed to get her wounds closed, and her vitals are stable, but she, um, won't wake up. The doctor said she slipped into a coma because recent traumatic events. I will show you to her room, if you'd like." I sighed and nodded. She really was a handful. The nurse led me up to the third floor, and the room was in the middle of the hall. She opened the door, and then closed it behind me. I sunk down into a chair as I took in the familiar, yet alien, sight before me. Her white hair had been pulled up into a bun on top of her head, and her face was covered in bandages. Her left eye was covered, and I could only imagine the two scars she would have there and wonder what they would look like. I didn't doubt that the new one would add to her already stunning looks and- Wait what was I thinking?! I shook my head and laid it in my hands. There was no point getting attached to her. Attachments only led to weaknesses. I of all people should've known that.
KURAI POV
I groaned slightly and tried to open my eyes. They felt as if lead weights were on them. I went to rub them, but sharp pains shot through both from shoulders to finger tips. I gasps slightly, not knowing where I was and not wanting to give away just how much I was hurt. I heard someone stir next to me, and my nose told me that it was Kakashi, along with other people I had no names for. I started to relax a little, hoping that I was safe.
"Are you finally awake?" His voice sounded tired, but made my heart jump and thunder in my chest. I turned my face towards him and nodded a little, still prohibited by sore muscles. "Good. I'll let the nurse know." I heard him get up and start walking away, and I inwardly cringed as a whimper escaped me. I heard him chuckle, but he said nothing as I heard the door open and close. I sighed and turned towards the source of warmth I could only assume was sunshine through a window. I tried to open my eyes again, and my right opened a little. The sun was blinding, and I had to close my eye again, but it felt wonderful. I tried again, squinting and blinking repeatedly until my eye adjusted to the light. I watched the clouds for a few minutes, until the door opened again and I turned to see Kakashi and a nurse. She rushed over and started fussing over me, asking all these odd questions. They must've been normal in a hospital, but having never been to one, I thought they were weird as hell. She finally left after she had determined that I couldn't move my legs still, and I really couldn't feel most of the surface of my body. That explained why I couldn't feel the bandages, but I could feel the warm sun. Kakashi had sunk into one of the chairs near the bed.
"How long have I been out?" I asked in my still hoarse voice. He sighed and rubbed his face and then met my gaze.
"About two weeks. Your clan came looking for you about four days ago. Hokage-sama simply told them you were dead." I nodded, understanding why he would've done that. Best way to protect their village, and me in some regards. "Since that has happened, I've been thinking..." His voice trailed off and he looked away as I noted his cheek turn light pink.
"What is it?" He scratched the back of his head and a small smile appeared on his face.
"Well, I've been making arrangements for when you get released. You know, a home and name change to say the least." I blinked in surprise.
"A name change?" He nodded.
"I'll let Hokage-sama give you all the details, but since you're supposed to be dead, you need to change your name." I nodded slowly, as my brain struggled to comprehend what was happening. There was a knock at the door, which he jumped up to answer. I blankly watched the Hokage walk in and dismiss his guards. He and Kakashi approached the bed, and I looked between them curiously. They had strange smiles on their faces.
"Well, my dear, you are all set to become a citizen of Konoha as soon as you are released from the hospital." My mouth fell open. Become a citizen here?
"But why? I can't possibly add any value to your village and-" He held up his hand and I fell silent.
"It is simply because I don't want you going back to those monsters you call a clan." I nodded, still not understanding where this generosity was coming from, especially with what was going to happen next year.
"Thank you again, Hokage-sama. I will make sure she fills out the paperwork as soon as she's able." Then he left. I had missed something, but my mind was so preoccupied that I didn't care. I would become part of this village, only to potentially destroy it. I would have to leave before my birthday next year, just to make sure that I didn't hurt anyone here.
KAKASHI POV
Kurai fell back asleep soon after the Hokage left, and I settled into watching her, like I had been. Her face became so peaceful when she slept, as if those horrible things had never happened to her. What strength she must have, when I could barely keep a lid on my emotions after what happened to Rin and Obito... I must've dozed off, because someone shaking my shoulder awoke me. My eyes snapped open to see her standing next to my chair. I jumped up and tried to get her back on the bed.
"What are you doing? You need rest." She shook her head.
"I'm a fast healer, once I'm actually awake. Let's fill out these papers before calling a nurse." I nodded and she sat on the edge of the bed. I pulled the table between us, and walked her through all the papers. I was reviewing them when I noticed the name she had chosen.
"Yuri Hatake?" I raised an eyebrow at her, and watched her cheeks turn pink as the colors in her eye started to swirl.
"That was my mother's nickname for me, because of how white my hair is I guess. And I hope you don't mind. There is no other surname I know that isn't connected to my clan." Her hair fell in front of her face, and I couldn't help but reach out and push it behind her ear. She met my gaze and I smiled.
"It's perfect. I'll go turn these in in the morning. Now, to get that nurse." I put the table back with the papers on top, and stood up and stretched. She laid back on the bed and I walked out the hall. There was a nurse conveniently coming down the hall, and I waved her down. She came over and I explained the situation, and then she ran off to get the nurse in charge of Kurai, I mean Yuri. It was going to take a little to get used to calling her that, but I smiled as I thought about it. She really was like a beautiful lily.
So, I'm not sure if I should end this book in a few chapters and make a second one, or just make one really long on with two sections. Please let me know you're thoughts below! Also, sorry this is a shorter chapter, but I have a feeling the next one will be much longer!
