It was awkward for the both of us, sleeping in a bed with another person. His bed was pushed against the wall under his window, and I curled up right there until I felt arms wrap around me and pull me up to his chest.

"Please sleep like this tonight," he whispered as my body stretched out like that of a normal person. I nodded and laid my head on his shoulder and my body ached for sleep. I didn't realize how much pain I was really in. My eyes fluttered shut as the sound of his heartbeat lulled me to sleep.

All around me, the wind whispered through the plants as the evening sun cast a golden glow across the plain in front of me. I looked to my left and saw Kakashi standing there, looking away from me. I reached out to him and took a step. I started to smile, but then the world fell out form under me. The yellows, oranges, and reds moved around me in a fiery mix as I fell through anything and everything.

"Kurai....." I looked and saw my brother there, beyond the flames.

"Suto!" I cried as I tried to grab him. He just moved farther away and Kakashi took his place with a kunai drawn.

"I will kill you if it's the last thing I do..." The flames turned inward and whipped passed me, burning me as the tongues came closer and closer. I screamed as they consumed me. I was going to die....

KAKASHI POV

I was almost asleep when she started talking in her sleep. I couldn't tell what she was saying and I buried my face in her hair. It smelled so sweet, like the juniper berries that grew by the river in the west woods. I could feel myself smile as I yawned and started to fall back to sleep.

"Suto!" She screamed and jerked in my arms. I tried to pin her down, but she was stronger in her sleep. She rolled over to face me and I saw tears running down her face. I pulled her close and placed her face in my chest and started stroking her hair. Her body jerked violently for over an hour, until finally she nuzzled into my chest and fell into a deep sleep. I felt my face heat up as she did so, but in my tiredness I ignored it, held her tighter, and went to sleep.

I awoke around 5:30 the following morning feeling more refreshed than I ever had after sleeping. I sleepily glanced at the mess of white hair all around me to discover a very pretty face near mine. I yawned and laid my forehead on hers as I started to drift back to sleep. Before my eyes fully closed, I saw hers open to reveal a breathtaking pair of sunburst colored eyes. We stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, until she closed her eyes and snuggled close to me. Her face went into my neck and I placed my chin on top of her head. Soon I felt myself drifting back to sleep until there was a pounding sound at my front door. I groaned and tried to get up, but Kurai held onto me.

"More sleep..." she mumbled and I couldn't help but smile. She reminded me of a small child. I leaned over to her ear.

"Shh go back to sleep. I'll be right back," I whispered as I pulled her arms off of me. She curled up only a little when I got up, and I went to the door. I didn't even bother with a mask of any sort; I was so irritated and tired. The pounding stopped as the lock clicked, and I opened the door just a little to reveal an ANBU.

"What is it?" I muttered.

"Danzo is looking for you."

"Why?"

"He is interested in recruiting the kunochi, I believe."

"No," I said, shaking my head. "She has had enough of that type of life for a while. Go tell him that, and that maybe he can see in 6 months." The ANBU nodded and left. I closed and relocked the door and yawned. I headed back to bed only to find Kurai sitting up and facing the window. I sighed.

"Where did you go?" she asked quietly.

"Someone was at the door, but he's gone now. Let's go back to bed. You looked like you needed more sleep." She shrugged but crawled into my arms the moment I got comfortable. I thought I heard faint whimpers as I stroked her hair but she soon fell back asleep. A few times I almost drifted off, but slowly I watched the sun rise and came to grips that I probably was up for the day. However, I stayed still and relaxed so she could sleep peacefully.

KURAI POV

I didn't wake until late in the morning, and while I felt refreshed, my wounds made me feel super groggy. I felt a body under my left arm and tried to open my eyes, but they were glued shut with sleep. I groaned and shifted and went to rub my eyes when I felt a nose against the top of my head.

"Did you know that you are super adorable when you sleep?" asked a familiar voice. I frowned and rubbed my left eye and pulled it open. I gave Kakashi a pointed look, to which he just smiled and chuckled. I furrowed my brows and climbed out of the house via the open window and sat on the roof. I heard him take a deep breath while I played with my hair out of his sight. I looked up at the sun, and it suddenly turned red and everywhere I saw blood. I clutched my chest as my heart started throbbing and I doubled over and started coughing.

"What the hell...?" I muttered through something dripping onto the roof from my mouth. I stared at the strange liquid and dipped a fingertip into it. My eyes widened as a familiar taste of iron filled my mouth and I realized that it was blood, accept that it was black and sticky like tar. I heard evil laughter and looked up to see a woman in black floating in front of me.

"Well well well, you certainly turned out better than I'd hoped. Although I can't say the same for your pack." She frowned and I felt a chill run down my spine, but I felt my emotions slipping from my grasp.

"Who are you?" I whispered. She locked eyes with me. Black merciless holes stared me down and I felt myself unconsciously changing into my wolf form. When the change was complete, I lowered my tail in between my hind legs and I laid my ears back against my head.

"Ah, very good. At lest part of you knows who I am." She reached out and placed her hand on under my muzzle and looked deep into my eyes. I felt a burning, to which I whined and tried to get away from her grasp. She tightened her grip on my lower jaw and brought her lips to my right ear.

"Tonight is your birthday, my dear child. Spend the next year enjoying your life, for in one year, everything will change." Her breath leeched into my fur, burning my ear. I yelped and whined and managed to shake her hand off of me. She laughed again and the world around me started going red. I stared at the woman went up in red flames, and then suddenly everything was back to normal. So normal in fact that a white dove landed right next to me. But I had an awful dread growing in my stomach. I tried to shift back to my human form, but my body protested too much and I looked to see that my wounds had opened again and they were dripping with the black blood. I whined with frustration and the dove twittered at me. I looked at it and it flew down into the window below me. I heard a surprised yell and Kakashi trying to get it out of his apartment, but instead it brought him to the window. I limped to the edge of the room and laid down and whined loudly. I heard him climb on top of his bed and lean out the window. I tilted my head and looked at him and whined again. His eye widened and he climbed up to the roof and started inspecting my wounds.

"I've never seen a wolf with this coloring before," he muttered as I felt his fingers trace the fur along my stomach in the flame pattern. I tried to get up, but I felt something crack in my chest and I coughed up fresh blood. I looked back at Kakashi with an apologetic look, but he was focusing on the blood from my shoulder wound. He then looked at me with worry and I bowed my head.

"I need to speak with the Hokage," I gurgled out. I felt my strength draining but I needed to tell someone about what I had seen. He seemed surprised when I spoke, but nodded and carefully picked me up.

"I will be taking you to the hospital first, and I'll bring him to you." I had no strength to argue anymore, and my vision started growing dark as he hopped across the roofs to the hospital. I didn't want to become a monster. I wanted to live a normal and peaceful life where no one knew my past. I felt my body turn human as I curled up in Kakashi's arms and began to cry.
