Chapter 5

Clan history:

The Ookami (meaning wolf) clan is the lands' most ancient clan and was founded when Katsurou (meaning victorious son) and his wife Akiko (meaning autumn child) made a pact with the wolf demon Ketsueki (meaning blood) in a desperate attempt to survive the never-ending wars. The pact was the descendants of the couple would be members of Ketsueki's pack, and therefore be under her protection. They would also gain a second form, in likeness of a wolf, along with heightened senses in their original form. However, to stay members of the pack, each generation would have to sacrifice their "alpha male," or the highest ranking male member of the clan on the first new moon of his 30th year, and treating the "alpha female," either the wife or highest ranking female of the clan, as they would treat a queen. Ketsueki herself was to be worshiped with great devotion through use of their wolfish powers and slaughter of those in which she deemed the world needed to be rid of. She also bestowed a "gift" upon Akiko, wherein the 150th generation of the clan, no sacrifice would need to be made, but a female would be the vessel through which their wolf "goddess" would unleash her bloodlust on the world.

As a result of their powers and ability to survive practically everything, the Ookami clan was a sword for hire in any and all wars throughout history. They were perfect for the job, since they killed anyone they were ordered to, accept their pack members. They were feared, yet inspired the forming shinobi clans to train hard.

Location:

The location of the entire clan is a mystery to everyone, but a small group took over a town on the east shores of the Land of Fire, near the Land of Waves, and anyone looking for their services goes there. Anyone going to try to get rid of them is never seen again.

Current status:

The clan has presumably been around for 3,000 years and around 80 years BK (before Kurai), the clan fell away from their worshiping, because there had been no evidence of the existence of Ketsueki. Their wolfish nature was shamed if used for any purpose accept on missions, and a group males began to rule the clan, instead of one "alpha male" and one "alpha female" which was expected by the "goddess."

Although, they still feared the prophecy, which predicted that a girl with eyes the color of flames would rise to lead the clan and return it to it's original glory. In response, the Head Council had every girl thoroughly inspected a few months after she was born, in order to determine the color of her eyes.

Ookami Kurai:

From the beginning, this girl's life was hell. In her mother's womb, she awakened and knew far more than any baby should know. She was born on Ketsueki tsuki (meaning blood moon), which was a holiday to celebrate the clan's most ruthless killers. Every mother avoided having a child on this day, for it was a bad omen for the child. The children born on this day either too weak to be accepted into the clan, or grew up and went feral from bloodlust. The clan had tried to tame the latter portion, but in the end, every Ketsueki-ko (meaning blood child) had to be killed. However when Kurai was born, with her fiery eyes wide with wonder, she was a normal baby. Because of her eyes and her strange temperament for a Ketsueki-ko, her family was forced to move to the village so the Council could keep watch over them. When she turned 3, she expressed the ability become one of their best shinobi, and her father was murdered in secret as punishment for what he brought into the world. After the loss of her father, Kurai's mother went a little insane. She began taking any mission to the Leaf Village, or collaboration missions with only certain Leaf shinobi. Kurai went with her a couple times, with orders to kill her if she was spilling secrets, but that was never need. Her mother had merely befriended a shinobi by the name of Hatake Sakumo, who Kurai later knew as The White Fang. (Kurai never met Kakashi in her past.) When Kurai was 5, she and her mother learned of Sakumo's death, wherein her mother went completely nuts. While she was still able to complete her missions, her home life was nonexistent. Kurai's older brother took care of her most of the time. On her sixth birthday, under the light of the blood moon, Kurai watched her mother take her own life.

Ookami Yumi, a fairly new Council member at the time, took the responsibility of consoling and training the distraught girl. He told her many lies concerning a few select clans that took refuge in the Leaf Village in order to fuel her hatred and turn her into a cold-hearted killing machine. When she was subjected to the punishment after a failed mission, she trained even harder to grow stronger, but it wasn't until after her brother was murder right in front of her, by her own comrades no less, that she began to see the clan for what it really was.
