Sorry this chapter is a little short. I hope you find it interesting all the same😘
Genesis sat quietly on her bed. It was actually the only bed in the room and she with her grandma shared it.
She felt like she hadn't done anything to help Yolanda. She was now certain that Yolanda hadn't made up the whole thing. Perhaps, if she had pressured her grandma, she could have gotten information out of her.
She wasn't about to miss another opportunity to question her Grandma about the ball and whether or not her Grandma liked it, she was going to answer her questions.
Her Grandma was preparing to go out, Genesis noticed. Too bad that she'd have to face my questions first, Genesis thought as she watched her grandma select clothes to wear. Not that there was a wide range to choose from anyway..
"Mama" Genesis began quietly.
Her grandma knew that tone very well. It was the tone Genesis used when she was about to ask impossible questions that could silence even the wise.
"Yes,my child" she answered anyway. "What is it?
"You've been avoiding my questions about the crystal ball and I think it's high time you told me what I need to know" Genesis said firmly and politely.
"And what do you need to know? Griselda sighed and faced Genesis.
A feeling of satisfaction spread across Genesis's thin slim face. "Mama, please tell me about the Ball's history and how you know about it"
Griselda looked at Genesis and heaved a loud sigh so Genesis would understand it was something she hoped she'd never have to talk about. The past was supposed to be in the past. Why does it keep affecting the future?
"Genesis, this isn't easy to say and you might not understand how it goes"
"Well I've been living with you since my mother dumped me here, I didn't understand but that didn't stop you from telling me, did it?
"That's a different issue, your mother..."
"Mama you're drifting away from the point"
Griselda stared at Genesis long enough before finally continuing "you might not understand what I'm about to tell you but listen anyway because you asked for it. Many years ago, when I was still a teenager like you, I was forced to join a sorority"
"So how does the sorority and the ball relate" Genesis was trying to make sense of the story.
"Listen child! Do not be in a hurry, I'm still getting there" Griselda said calmly.
"Sorry mama"
"So the sorority was made up of fourteen girls. These fourteen girls had different powers that were used to help people"
"So you were part of the fourteen girls? Genesis asked unbelievably.
"Yes. I had the power to interprete dreams Una had because she only had the gift of dreaming about things to come"
"Who's Una?
"She was the head of the sorority and I, became an assistant to her because of my ability, not of my accord though. The sorority was for good reason until Una became obsessed with the most important possession of a rival sorority"
"What rival sorority was that? What was the name?
"The name, I withhold. For your safety" Griselda said seriously.
"What were the rival sorority about?
"The exact opposite of what we stood for. They sacrificed human blood to feed their master. "
Genesis looked at Griselda with horror filled eyes.
"They didn't want lives to be saved and that was why on various occasions we had major clashes. Una was determined to weaken them by taking their most important possession where their master resided. The crystal ball"
Genesis gasped "why would she want such a thing?
"She wanted to destroy it even when she didn't know how. She managed to bring it to our coven after the last clash we had with them. We were all horrified that she'd do such a thing. We pleaded that she returned it or throw it into the fire of no return where we destroyed dangerous items but she refused. That was how we split up. She was now left with the ball and her power to dream. The other members, I have no idea where they are except for one"
"So Una is the one in possession of the ball? Is that her real name?
"Yes she is in possession of the ball and no, Una isn't her real name"
"Do you happen to know if the ball has powers of its own?
Griselda looked skeptical. "I'm not sure, if the master resides in it, then its bound to have powers of its own"
Genesis was far from satisfied with information she'd gotten from her grandma.
"Mama why can I see the future through dreams? Do I have Una's power?
Griselda's lips curved in a smile. "Yes, yes you do"
"It doesn't make any sense. Why do I have that power? Is the sorority still functioning?
"That I do not know" Griselda said frankly.
"Is that why my mother left me with you? Does she have any power?
"No, no dear child. You were left with me for a different reason. Your mother has no power whatsoever"
"So why am I here? Do I have siblings?
It was Griselda's turn to tell her she was drifting away from the point. Her daughter had brought Genesis to her for reasons that were not hers to disclose.
"You're drifting away from the point"Griselda said softly. "Why do you want information on the ball?
Genesis told her about all that happened with Lola, the crystal ball and Yolanda.
"What!? Griselda shrieked in horror. "A girl died? And you said she told you she looked in the ball?
"Yes Mama" Genesis answered.
Griselda got up from the chair she'd been sitting on. "This is bad. There's no doubt that the ball I just told you about is the same ball in your friend's custody"
"Well, she's not exactly my friend"
"What does it matter? Her life is in danger!"
"Does it mean she's related to Una?
"That my dear, you'll have to find out. Please do it for me" Griselda pleaded.
Griselda couldn't believe how small the world was. Here she was, hiding from her past and all for nothing now. If Una was close, she had to see her. Lives were in danger and she wouldn't be alive to witness such mishap.
Genesis on the other hand was shocked. If Una was related to Lola then Lola was in trouble. She weighed the possibility of informing Lola about her newest discovery. She had doubts that Lola would even give her a listening ear. "That girl is as stubborn as a mule" Genesis sighed.
All the same she was going to try and convince Lola to believe her and if she didn't, well it was her choice to hand herself to death on a platter of gold.
Genesis wondered if her dream about helping Lola with healing powers had anything to do with the crystal ball. She couldn't now rule out the possibility that the dream could actually come true. "Why can't I have a normal life, why? She hissed shrilly.
She decided she'd go and visit Lola the next day. Frankly, if not for her grandma she couldn't care less if Lola was killed by a ball or crucified. That girl had to be the most annoying person she'd met in a long while. She made up her mind that if after the first attempt to convince Lola was futile then Lola was on her own in this.
