Books Turned Into Movies
OK, this is probably something a lot of people here can relate to. We all have that one book that we just loved to bits (sometimes literally), but then it happens...it becomes popular. But not just popular, like REALLY popular. Suddenly everyone is talking about it, fan groups are made, people think they know everything about the book, and then finally you see it.
A trailer.
A movie trailer.
And not just any movie trailer.
A bad movie trailer.
Now I'm not saying that all movies that are made from books are bad, just a certain few. Sometimes you really just wonder if the producer even considered making the actor look like the character, or they completely cut out all the good parts, or they think they can make it better by "changing it around".
No.
Just...no.
There is a limit my friend, a clearly defined limit and this is coming from a movie lover. Seriously, it takes A LOT for me to not like a movie, but some people...
Anyway what my point here is, turning books into movies is great and I know you can't please everyone, but you have to look at the original lovers of this book and see what it was that made them love it in the first place. If done correctly, it can make the book's beautiful words come alive onto a screen...if done incorrectly...lets just not go there.
I understand that producers put a lot of work into a movie, and sometimes you do things to impress the media by adding a few of your own 'touches'. But please, for the love that is good and pure, read the book and analyse it and all the other fancy stuff. Imagine the movie playing out in your mind while you're reading, get other people's opinions on it and research! I know it's easier said than done, but come on, no one wants someone else to make a mockery of their work.
Oh yes, and one last thing that I've noticed lately, more and more books seem to be made into movies. It's like people can't make something original themselves so they take someone else's work. That may not always be the case but it's really starting to look like it!
One more side note; take the reader's heart (you know, the people that loved the book from the start? Yeah, them) into consideration when you do make a book into a movie. Those people have, and probably always will, love that book so if you make a terrible movie...it's not my fault you get murdered...violently. But if you make something amazing, well, it's not my fault if you get raped passionately either.
And remember not every popular book has to be made into a movie, sometimes there are some stories that are meant to be left on paper.
