That dream again. Trapped in the middle of the fire and nowhere to go. Just hearing Chase's cry for help. The smoke making my eyes hazy with tears and my throat dried up. And feeling my body caught up with the heat from all direction. I looked up and seeing a portion of the ceiling falling apart. Suddenly, I woke up sweating against the cold surroundings of the room. I sat up on the bed. My panting reverberated in my ears. It has been awhile since the last time I had such dream.I took off all my clothes and headed to the shower. The cold water slowly calmed my nerves and my breathing back to normal. It took me more than ten minutes before I got out and decided to change into fitted black jeans. It's a school day but I just want to skip it. I felt so parched and went out of my room slinging a white shirt on my left shoulder.
My strides took me to the kitchen. I can hear Chase and Myah's voices in an argument. I hesitated momentarily but continued on my way. I almost stopped on my track when I got in and saw them kissing their hearts out.
"Do you mind?" I managed to utter while making my way to the refrigerator. The look on their faces wanted me to laugh it out loud but I had to control it. A part of me wanted to strangle my brother for being the lucky bastard. Myah's face was all red in embarrassment as I winked at her. She buried her face in my brother's chest even more.
"Are you not going to school, Glenn?" Chase managed to say a word to break the tension.
I finished on drinking the content of the water bottle before shaking my head. "I'm not. I think I'll hang out with Pete. Why?"
"Nothing. Are you okay? You looked bothered." Chase detached himself from Myah. The frown showing up on his face was a mark of concern. I know my little brother so much that I love and hate him so much at the same time. On the other hand, Myah's face was downcasted, still red like a tomato. She was still ashamed of being caught in a liplock as she sat near the counter not able to look at me.
"You know the usual, little brother." I shrugged momentarily. It was a clue between us about the trauma we share back then when we were still young. Chase's eyes were all on me full of questions. "How are you, Myah?" I asked to get my brother off my case.
An awkward smile surfaced from her face though I can see the sadness in her eyes when she looked up to me. "My body aches all over."
"Are you both going to school today?" I sat opposite Myah and grabbed the Gatorade from her.
"Nope, we aren't. That's mine, idiot!" Myah exclaimed so hotly and her face so crimson again.
"Correction, Myah. This is mine. You took it from my stock." I opened and drunk from it almost emptying the entire bottle. I can still feel the thirst in me. "You should know that my stuff is off limits even Chase doesn't touch it."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." I eyed her before giving her a teasing smile.
"Chase, if she's staying with us, you might want to tell her the do's and dont's of the house." I winked at her one more time as I watched another blush rose from her cheeks. "Blushing again?"
"What?I'm not?!" She pouted right away.
"Yes, you are. You might want to try to look at yourself in the mirror." I stood up and started putting on my shirt in front of her.
"Idiot!" I heard her say.
"What was that again?" I retorted yet with less intensity.
"Stop it!" Chase cut in slamming his hands on the counter.
"Your brother is a pain in the ass." Myah stood up and moved nearer to my brother.
I laughed to annoy her more. I can see my brother's frustration. "You might want to think again whose the pain in the ass between the two of us, Myah. And let Chase answer it."
"Enough, GFord!" Chase hissed at both of us.
"Fine, brother!" I mocked him raising both hands in surrender. "I'm going out. I'm famished." I touched my tummy for emphasis.
"Remember, we got dinner tonight with our parents." Chase pocketed his car keys and pulled Myah out of the kitchen. "Don't be late."
I heaved a sigh and breathed easy. I put in a reminder on my phone and made my way to the garage. I can't believe I picked an argument that easily with Myah in front of my brother. That girl is a hellion. Maybe that's why she's with Chase not with me. A different kind of sparks flies when we're in together. But inwardly I still like her. I can't seem to find the reason why. I can argue with her all day and not be bored.
I stood in front of my father's Ashton Martin and the black Ducati but the gray Mustang was calling me out. It was beside Chase's Audi. I took the keys hanging near the door and it beeped when I pressed a button.
I got in on the driver's side and felt the coolness of the upholstered seat. The car purred into life and made me alive too. "Where to?" I asked the air around me, talking to myself. Just in time, my stomach grumbled in response. I drove out and headed to the route of Danny's Diner.
Hoping for the day to be better.
