"I'm sorry about my brother. He's being an ass lately." Chase softly uttered trailing behind me.
Pissed off, I turned around and met his confused eyes. "Why are you apologizing for GFord? It isn't your fault at all."
Walking away from him, I proceeded to open the door and dumped my backpack on the nearest couch. Chase was still following me around as I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a pitcher of water from the fridge.
"Are you mad at me?"Chase's voice strained while leaning back on the doorframe of the kitchen with arms crossed.
"No, I'm not." I stammered almost slamming the pitcher on the counter."My mind couldn't comprehend the stroke of luck I have to deal with both of you. Am I jinx? Am I cursed? God, why do you have to do this to me? I didn't ask for this for crying out loud." I was talking to the air around me in complete sarcasm. I covered my face with both hands in frustration.
Chase was already in front of me when I dropped my hands at the side. "Come here." He uttered softly and I didn't have the strength to say no. I allowed him to pull me into his embrace. "I'm sorry that you have to deal with Glenn that way."
I just nestled my face on his chest while nodding. His arms wrapped around my waist comfortably. "I think you need to go home now."
"I will."He took a deep breath like memorizing my scent to his soul and disengaged from the hug. He smiled and hesitated from retreating to the door."Be patient with me, Myah. Please." With those words, he disappeared and I heard the mild shutting of the door close.
My mother's willowy figure came striding into the kitchen cradling bags of groceries in her arms."Help me out, hon."
I assisted her and placed the stuff on the countertop before leaning to kiss her on the cheek. "I missed you, Mom."
"I miss you too, Myah. I met Chase on my way here. He looks sad. Did you had a fight" And she was smiling, doing her baiting for information.
"And why would we fight? We just had a rough day in school." I pouted my lips in concentration unpacking the content of the grocery bags.
"If I don't know you as my daughter, I would really think both of you in a relationship." She said it in a matter-of-a-fact manner.
"Mom,you're thinking wrong!" I halted and stared at my mother's calm stance."Chase and I will never be in such status."
"Don't be too sure." She laughed delicately as I stared at her in annoyance."I've been watching the two of you every time the team is here. Every time you move, his body language mirrors protection and familiarity with yours."
My cheeks were burning red in shyness. "I don't know what you're saying, Mom."
She laughed again teasingly. "Myah, it's all right. Take it from your momsy. Mother knows best."
"I'll go up in my room to do my assignments." That made her laughed more. Hurriedly, I walked into the living room and gathered my stuff and ran up to my own haven, my room.
There was actually no assignments to work on. I just want to escape my beloved mother's outright teasing. I sprawled on the bed, eyes on the light brown ceiling and my phone started to buzz with "Twerk It Like Miley" song. Zareena changed my ringtone again without telling me. I reached for it from the side table and saw Chase's name on it. I pressed a phone button and held it to my right ear.
"Miss me already?" I spat on the phone right away before the other line can say a word.
Zareena's laughter erupted into my ears. "Bestie, I can't imagine you saying those words to Chase! Are you keeping secrets from me now?"
"Why are you using his phone instead of yours?" I sat upright on the bed.
"Battery is low. I failed to charge it at home." She giggled upon hearing background noise.
"Where are you, Zareena? Is there a meeting I don't know about?" I inquired trying to squeeze my brain of their whereabouts.
"We're here in Chase's house. He wanted to talk about something important with my boyfriend. I borrowed his phone since Luke's phone is also dead." She was munching on something coz the rest of her words were garbled."Hmmm..Myah, you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm all ears." I sighed. What's going on? asking myself inwardly.
"You seem silent. Are you okay?" Zareena also sighed breathily.
"Just rough day,"I muttered obviously my attention, not on her. "Do you happen to know what they will be talking about?"
"I really don't have any idea at all." I can imagine her rolling her eyes."But I can always ask Luke later."
"Okay. Keep me posted, bestie. I wanna know what they are up to. I don't know but my guts are telling me something's not right." I poured out to my best friend who kept on munching a chip I think.
"Paranoid, aren't you?" She countered with a whistle."The boys also need their boys' talk, not only just the girls."
"Who are you siding with?" I croaked not happy with her line of reasoning.
"Don't throw that question to me. You're obviously not fine. Very irate to put it bluntly." I hate it when she's right. She reads me so well. "I'm doing this as a favor to Chase. He said you had an encounter with GFord and was very upset after he dropped you off at your house. Chase and I and the rest of the guys want to check up on you. We care for you. You should remember that."
"I know, mother." It made her sighed one more time. "I'm sorry, bestie."
"It's fine, Myah. You might want to take a rest."She tried to shush the deep voices in the background.
I made a mental nod. "Fine. See you when I see you."
"Stop quoting "Dear John"."Zareena snapped haughtily trying to suppress her laughter."Bye, bestie!" The line just went dead.
I dropped to my pillows and closed my eyes until sound sleep took me in few minutes time.
