Chapter 3: Believe in Me

Chapter 3

"I promise..." I began as I looked at him right in his beautiful pearl black eyes.

"I promise to always protect and love you, Kaneki" I spoke. He gave me a big smile and our hands began to glow like before. Once again, Kaneki stared at the star's magic.

"So cool..." He whispered in amazement. I couldn't help but smile at his enthusiasm. I then repeated the same process as I grabbed the star within my hands. The only difference was this time, the star didn't make me bleed. Instead of it turning red like Kaneki's, it stayed a perfect shade of light, clear blue. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"What the..." I whispered to myself, inaudible for Kaneki to hear. 'Why did his burn red while mine stayed blue? What does this mean...'

"Could you please bring me the other satchel Kankei?" I asked. He nodded and got it. Like before, he opened the satchels, I put the glowing orb into it, and shut it tight. I then got up on the windowsill while holding the two satchels.

"Alright buddy, I'll be back some other time so we can out the stars in the sky together, alright?" I assured him. He smiled widely in excitement.

"Okay Mr. Hide!"

A few nights later

"Tonight is the night. We're going to place them in the sky..." I whispered to myself as I approached Kaneki's windowsill.

"Pssst! Kaneki?" I called out. I saw him sit up on his bed. He looked at me with these eyes, they weren't the same as before. There was something different about him. He then got out of bed and walked towards me without saying a word.

"Kaneki? What's wrong?" I asked concerned. He only looked at me with this face of hurt, as if he wanted to cry. Light tears then began to slowly flow from his eyes. He looked so hurt, I tried to hug him to comfort him, but he pushed me away.

"Kaneki...what's wrong?" I asked greatly concerned. The tears flowed more as he began to sob.

"Shut up! You're not real! You don't exist, leave me alone!" He sobbed as he looked at me in anger. I felt my heart weaken, my hopes shatter. I tried to get close to him, I tried to show him that I'm real.

"Kaneki look, I'm real-" he cut me off with an explanation.

"I told Touka-chan and Nichiki-san about you, I told them how much I believe in you and love you for always being there for me...but they told me you weren't real! They said you're fake, that you're a figment of my imagination! They said I should stop being a baby and stop pretending 'an angel ' actually exists! You're not real, Mr. Hide!" He cried. I tried to get close to him once again, but he wouldn't have it. He kept moving away from me. I decided it was best to leave him be, hoping he would calm down within the next week.

"Get out! I never want to see you again, you demon!" He yelled as he locked his window from my entrance. I tried to leave with dignity and a smile of hope, but it was only when I touched my face did I notice I was crying. I watched him run back to his bed, and throw the covers over himself.

"Oh Kaneki....", I gently touched the window, staring sadly at him.  My hand fell back to my side, and I floated there for a minute or so.  I eventually flew off, hoping that next time I visited he would see differently.
