Paige's POV:
I could feel my heart pounding in my ears as Tyler and I jogged down a dirt path. It was a small jogging path that we had found. It wound it's way up a small mountain, we were almost to the top.
"Come on just a bit more." Tyler panted from behind me.
I needed to save my breath so I nodded instead. My thighs were burning and my lungs were begging for air. It felt nice. I was getting back into shape. Finally I took those last few agonizing steps and we were there. A small bluff overlooking the Las Vegas strip. Tyler laid a hand on my shoulder as we both rested, taking in the view. Both of us needed time to catch our breath so it was a while before I could form a sentence.
"This is really cool." I commented, gesturing to the view.
"Yeah. It's nice." He agreed.
I could hear him struggling to form a question. And it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what it would be. But I didn't interrupt, he needed to ask.
"Are you sure your ok? With Niall I mean. I think your sadder than your letting on." Tyler finally asked.
"Yeah I'm fine."
Which was true. Partially. For now I was completely fine. I'd bandaged that wound and shoved it away. I didn't want to think about him because if I did than yes I would break down. There was too many questions and emotions I hadn't figured out yet. But the underlying this was why wasn't I good enough? And damnit I missed him. Not romantically, just as a friend. Because there was a void and I knew no one would ever fill that. Just like no one would ever be able to replace Carter.
"He deserves another chance." Tyler stated.
"I don't believe in second chances." I replied with a shrug.
"Why? They all gave you a second chance."
"No they didn't. Because I never stopped trying. I didn't need a second chance because they whole way I was trying to fix it. Niall hasn't."
"But that's not him!" Tyler insisted.
"Yes it is. You are your thoughts and actions!"
"Maybe he changed then."
"People don't change. You just never knew them in the first place." I said with a sigh.
"Well maybe you still don't know him. Paige give Niall a chance. Give me a chance?" Tyler asked in a low voice.
"No! Why are you helping Niall anyway?"
"Because it's better than seeing you end up with Styles. I'm just trying to help you. Why can't you trust me?" Tyler asked, turning me so I was unwillingly facing him.
"You don't know anything about Harry so stop judging him. And you could help by at least trying to get along with everyone. I love them and I love you. Why can't you all just be nice?" I asked in frustration.
"I do try. They don't like me. I'm not part of them like you are." Tyler said with a sigh.
"I know...I'm sorry. It's just so confusing sometimes. Half the time I don't even know what were fighting about anymore."
"I know...shit takes time." He commented, kissing the top of my head.
It was a small gesture. But comforting none the less. At least Tyler was a friend. Maybe he was right. We did need to talk to Niall. But I couldn't do it alone. And I couldn't to it now. It was just...too soon. "Alright let's get going. Enough down time."
