I swear, I've never run faster in my life. My feet were pounding the ground and it felt like my calves were going to burst. I could feel my heart beating in my throat; it felt like any second it would come flying out of my mouth.

I didn't dare look behind me, in fear that I might either trip on something ahead of me or catch sight of the monster that was chasing me through these woods.

My foot caught on a rock and I was sent flying forward onto my hands and knees. I looked down to see a decent sized hole ripped in the knee of my jeans. I pulled on the sleeve of my jacket and pressed it shakily on my bleeding knee.

Remembering where I was and the danger I was in, I jerked my head up and looked behind me.

A man with pale skin, raven-black hair and piercing black eyes stood there, smiling at me. Droplets of blood fell from sharp canines, and I let out a bloodcurdling scream.

"Lena! Lena, wake up!" I heard a panicked voice say, and my eyelids fluttered open to see my younger sister, Ally, standing above me.

"Jesus Christ," I mumbled, closing my eyes and dragging my sweaty palms down my face.

"I'm so sorry, Ally. I didn't wake you up, did I?" I sat up and pulled the covers tighter around me. She sat down beside me with a sigh.

"Kind of. It's okay, though. I don't mind," she said, looking down. Her long blond hair fell in front of her face, and I reached out to tuck it back behind her ear.

"I'm sorry. Don't tell mom, okay? If she knew these nightmares weren't getting any better, I'd be in big trouble for saying they were," I said, rubbing my eyes. Ally smiled and nodded her head.

"Your secret's safe with me. As long as you promise you'll get better soon." Her smile disappeared from her face. I breathed deeply and scooted closer to her. She was only eight years old and had so much to handle already.

"I pinkie promise," I said, sticking out my hand. She wrapped her pinkie around mine and we shook furiously, erupting in laughter. She slapped her hand to her mouth, silencing herself.

"Oops," she mumbled beneath her fingers. I remembered it must be the middle of the night. I glanced at the alarm clock on my nightstand to see 3:07AM shining back at me in red neon. My mom and my brother Josh were dead asleep at this time. I felt really guilty about waking Ally up.

"You should get back to bed," I said, scooting back towards my headboard. She sat quiet for a moment, then nodded her head.

"No more nightmares tonight, I promise," slipped in, noticing her expression. She nodded again, though hesitant.

"Goodnight, Ally." I forced a smile at her. She smiled back and made her way toward the door before turning back around and facing me.

"Goodnight, Lena." She slipped through the door, closing it behind her. I listened for her bedroom door to close and when it finally did I fell back into bed, my head sinking into the pillow. A quiet groan escaped me as I pulled the covers up to my shoulders.

"Please no more nightmares, please no more nightmares," I whispered, shutting my eyes tight. A soft creak in the corner of my room made my eyes shoot open. In the darkness, I couldn't see a thing, but my heart raced as my imagination formed figures in the shadows.

I turned on my side and pulled the covers up around my head, curling into a ball. After what felt like forever of continuous silence, my eyes began to feel heavy and I finally drifted back into a much needed sleep.

I'm sorry if it's a little short, but this is the first chapter and I just wanted a little something to get the ball rolling. In case you didn't read the synopsis or just don't know, this is a vampire romance story, so if you don't like stories like that don't bother reading any chapters after this one.

I hope you guys enjoyed that chapter and I hope you read the next ones. I'm excited to write this project and I hope it turns out amazing :)
