Chapter 4
I was replacing Josi's IV when a nurse came in, Corey.
"Hey B. I'll leave Josi's medicine on the table." He placed the cup of water and baggy of tablets on the table.
"You can't give 'em to her?"
"She doesn't like me." He pouted.
I laughed, "Why do you say that?"
"She threw the water on me..."
I laughed a little harder. Josi was nice, but she was a diva.
"What makes you think she likes me?"
"You're an older figure."
"Did you just call me old?" I stopped laughing.
"Well I mean...."
"Hush, nurse."
"Nurses are just as important as doctors."
"Did they tell you that when you were studying to BE a nurse?" I said sarcastically.
"Fuck you." He said a bit hurt.
"You wish." I winked.
"Make sure the child gets the medicine." He smirked.
"Bye C!"
"Bye B." He smiled.
It was so fun messing with him. He was so cool. It had been a week since I had last seen Jaheem. He called me once last week. We didn't talk much. At first I asked him why he was such an ass. He said it comes with the territory. I don't have time for the bullshit. I was still finishing up meds school and I should be starting my intern year soon. I couldn't wait to be a Pieds surgeon. Speaking of, the new one should be coming today. I hope he was nice. I really don't have time for an asshole. I just got off the phone. I was looking all over for the new surgeon. I wanted to personally meet him. I was strolling around glancing at the kids. Then, I think I see him. He was a tall man, well dressed. I knew all the surgeons and never saw him before. I was actually really nervous. My heart was pounding a mile a minute. I finally walked up and smiled.
"Hi, I'm Beyonce. I'm a volunteer here. I was wondering, are you the new pieds surgeon?" I started.
"Yes. May I help you?" He said a bit agitated.
"I just wanted to introduce myself."
"Well, I'm Dr. Hann." He said dryly.
"Well, it'll be great to work with you." I tried to counter his attitude with kindness.
"Yeah...." He brushed passed me.
Oh, yay. Isn't he just a ball of sunshine? The last pieds surgeon left for another state. She eloped with her husband. She was decent, a bit jittery though. I walked in to Kel's room to see her, Tommy, and Andy laughing and being silly. Tommy was such a goofy kid. He was the center of attention, always cracking jokes and making weird faces for people to laugh. No one called him Thomas though, always Tommy. I let them enjoy their moment and went to look for Corey. It was around lunch time and I was a little hungry. He was over by the supply closet getting blankets.
"Hey! Wanna get lunch?" I flashed my begging smile.
"Lunch.....with a nurse? What do I due the honor of your mighty presence?" My sarcasm was rubbing off on him.
"C'monnnn. I know you're hungry." I whined.
"Fine. Be at room 402 at 12:30. Don't be late!" He warned.
"A queen is never late. Everyone is simply early." I quoted in my best royal voice.
"B...." He looked at me.
