Josi's going away party.
The nurses helped decorate Josi's room. We had pink and purple flowers with princess design all over the room. All the kids piled into Josi's room one by one. It was pretty sad for me. One of my babies was leaving. Corey and I were still not speaking. It didn't affect my day at all. Joan invited me to her birthday party, but I don't know if I'm going. Joan was a bit on the wild side while I was more to myself. I know how to have fun, but in a way of dancing and laughing. I don't like to get drunk. I smiled at all the kids playing and eating cake. I had yet to see Hann, though. I felt like I spoke too soon because he came in with a present. He placed it on the table and walked over to Josi. He said something to her and she hugged him. I guess this man really wasn't bad. After he was done, he walked over to me.
"Hello Ms. Knowles." He greeted warmly.
"Hi Dr. Hann. What do we do the honor?" I joked.
"Oh, I knew I had to come down to atleast say bye. She was one of my favorites." He smiled.
"Oh?" I thought he didn't like any of them, honestly.
"Yes. She was so warm and bubbly. I usually liked her to open my day for that specific reason." He explained.
"Wow. She's like a baby sister to me." I smirked thinking of when Josi and I first met.
Flashback
"Hi, my name is Beyonce." I greeted the little girl nervously.
"Hi, I'm NaJosia, but everyone calls me Josi." She smiled at me.
"Um. How long have you been here?" I was touched by her kindness.
"A while. I try not to count." She shrugged.
"Okay. Well, do you need anything?"
"Could you get me some paper?"
"Paper?" I was puzzled.
"Yes. I like to draw and the nurses only bring me nasty food, pillows, and my medecine." She said lowly.
"How 'bout I bring you more than paper?" I smiled.
Later on, I ran to the store and got her a sketch pad, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, and erasers. I personally don't like giving children markers. I brought them to her and she was over the moon.
"Thanks Beyonce!" She squealed.
"You can call me BB."
"Like bumble bee?" She questioned.
"I could call you that." I sat on her bed.
That was the beginning of our daily talks.
Flashback over
Kel and Andy were double squeezing Josi. I can tell she was loving every bit of this moment.
"Knowles?" Hann looked at me.
"Yes?" I honestly didn't know he was talking.
"What are you doing after this?" He repeated.
"Oh, nothing, I think." I answered.
"Would you like to get coffee?"
"Sure." I had been up all day getting everything ready for Josi's party. I needed a refresher.
"Okay. I'll find you after." He pat my shoulder and left. I nodded in agreement.
Then, Daniel finally came in. I was wondering where he was. I knew he wouldn't let her leave without saying bye. He struggled bringing his large piano in.
"Need a hand?" I picked it up.
"Could you put it over there?" He pointed to a table.
I carried the piano to the table while he got everyones attention. Everyone in the room turned to look at him.
"I have a surprise for Josi." He cheesed tightly. He had already given her so many gifts. I think the only thing left was the song. Meanwhile, Josi's eyes lit up with excitement. He walked over to the piano and I listened for a familliar tune. He began playing, and I loved it from the beginning. He did a mash up of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," and a slowed version of Bruno Mars' "Treasure." I never knew how those two songs would sound together, but it sounded amazing. Everyone just stood in astonishment. This was also the first time he had sang. I'm really glad he saved this for this moment. Truly amazing.
Coffee w/ Hann
We stayed in the hospital's cafeteria. I got a large coffee. I was sleepier than ever.
"How was the party?" He spoke.
"Great. I'm going to miss my little bumble bee." I frowned a little.
"Aww. Well, you still have bees here." He tried to lighten the mood.
"True. That and her mom said I could visit her whenever I felt."
"See, thats nice. The good in goodbye." He smiled.
I smiled back. "I have a question."
"Go." He sipped.
"Why were you so rude at first, but nice now? Do you have a disorder?"
He laughed at my use of the word disorder.
"No. Its just a bad defense mechanism I have. I'm like a dog with a nasty growl and bark, but once you pet me I'm pretty nice."
"You're a dog?" I joked.
"No. I meant-.."
"I know what you meant." I stopped him.
"My turn."
"K. Go."
"How are you a paid volunteer?" He inquired.
"Longgg story." I didn't have time to explain.
"Well, what made you accept my apology?" He looked in my eyes for a sincere answer.
"I wasn't at first, but I feel like it would be petty to hold grudges. You apologized. You changed your attitude. We moved on." That's how it went in my head.
"Are you naturally forgiving?" He interrogated more.
"Yes and you're asking too many questions." I sipped my coffee.
"Fine. What do you want to know about me?" He sat back in his chair.
"What made you like Pieds?"
The conversation continued on for quite a while. Hann was actually a human being. We finished our coffee and went back to work. I was getting stank glares from interns and fellow surgeons, but I was pretty immune to it now. I don't sleep around. I don't bat my eyes for opportunites. I feel that if you're comfortable with who you are, no one can make you feel small or inferior. I saw Craig by the main desk and stopped to ask him a question.
"Hey Craig." I greeted.
"Hey Beyonce. How are you?" He said warmly.
"Fine. And yourself?"
"Good."
"This is random, but were you going to go into Pieds or are you on Hann's service?"
"Going into Pieds." He answered.
"Oh okay. Bye now." I started to walk away.
"Wait." He grabbed my arm. "You're going into Pieds?"
"Yes. I thought that was kind of obvious." I joked.
"I thought you were a hot candy striper." He shrugged.
"I can't be attractive and smart?" One of my eyebrows went up.
"No. I just uh-Its um, that-.."
"Bye Craig." I just walked away.
The day went by pretty quick after that, and before I knew it, I had to actually say bye to Josi.
