There was a knock on Avi's room door. It was John. Apparently she was still sleeping. John tried again but there was still no response. He slowly turned the knob and opened the door. There she was, in bed, sleeping like an angel.
-John: Avi?
No response. He went over to her and shook her.
-John: Avi? Wake up.
She barely opened her eyes. She stretched her arms out and yawned. She realised that her dad was standing over her. She jumped up with a tiring look on her face.
-Avi: You startled me.
John chuckled as he walked over to the window. He drew away the curtains to allow the sunlight to make its way through. She covered her face with the blankets.
-John: Did you sleep well?
-Avi: Yeah, I guess. She rubbed her eyes and swung herself out of bed.
-John: Good. I'll be downstairs making us something to eat.
-Avi: OK.She went straight to her closet as he left. She looked for something to wear. It was going to be her first day at her new school. She wanted to dress her best. She sighed but then smiled as she searched through her closet. She was always a fan of dresses. She took out a red dress and a bright yellow, thin sweater. Although the sun was out, it was still cold in South Hill. But she liked it. She went straight to the bathroom and took a shower.
She came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body while she used another to dry her hair. She wasn't really paying attention to anything specific, but when she glanced on the bed where her clothes were, she saw something. It was black and it was moving. She looked carefully at the thing, when she realised that it was a bird, a raven to be specific. She tilted her head, and then looked at the window. It was open.
-Avi: Of course.
She looked back at the raven.
-Avi: Hey lil guy. What are you doing in here?
The bird hopped on the bed, then it flew out of the window. She had a confused look on her face.
-Avi: Nice meeting you too.
She got dressed and made her way downstairs.
-Avi: You made a raven see me naked.
John laughed.
-John: What?
-Avi: There was a raven in my room.
-John: A raven? He had a concerned look on his face.
-Avi: Yeah. He flew in and out through the window. He's gone now.
-John: Oh. Well I hope he didn't see much.He chuckled and she couldn't stop herself from laughing. She took a seat around the small round table in the kitchen.
-John: I'm almost done.
She looked behind her as he approached the table.
-Avi: I was meaning to ask you something.
-John: What's that?
-Avi: When did you learn how to cook?
-John: Who says that I learned how to?Avi widened her eyes and John laughed. He made his way back to the stove.
-John: Relax, it won't be so bad.
-Avi: Oh yeah? That's what you said about the soup you made for me when I had that awful cold years ago and it didn't taste like soup at all.
-John: But you said that you liked it.
-Avi: And you believed me? I was sick. I say things like that when I'm sick.John chuckled as he went back to the table. He placed the tray of food that he carried over in front of her. It was strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, and a cup of tea.
