I sat in the back of the moving ambulance with my head in my hands. Everything had happened so quickly, and I was still in a heavy state of shock. Rocket had somehow rescued six people in total from the burning building by helping them climb through windows and carrying people who were unconscious, but he himself had then collapsed inside. Amazingly, the fire service were able to rescue him, and he was taken immediately into hospital. I was in an ambulance with Gracie, who was recovering swiftly from her asthma attack, and everyone else.

“Hero, are you okay?” Christa asked softly.

I nodded silently.

I felt someone squeeze my hand, and looked up to see Gracie smiling encouragingly at me.

“He’ll be fine.” she insisted. Then she added: “You know what he’s like.”

I wanted to laugh. In normal circumstances, I would definitely have laughed. But this time, I needed to force it.

We arrived at the hospital and were taken in for medical attention. A few of us had a few cuts and bruises, but thankfully there was nothing serious. Only Gracie had to be treated for her asthma attack, and she was released immediately after that. Andy walked up to me with the rest of her band.

“We’re gonna go now.” she said, handing me a piece of paper “That’s my cell phone number. Let me know how he is, and be sure to keep in touch.”

“Thanks” I stuffed the paper in my pocket and waved goodbye to them.

“Hey, Hero…” it was Sean’s voice. I turned to face him “I’m going to take Gracie back home so she can get some rest. I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?”

“Alright. See you guys later” I said as they also left. Eventually, everyone had gone apart from Tom and myself.

“Are you going to go home?” he asked.

“No. I want to stay here, for Rocket.” I replied.

“I’ll stay with you then.” he said.

“We need to go find out where Rocket is.” I said, about to walk up to the reception desk and ask where he was, but then I remembered, “Shit…I can’t do it. I don’t know his real name”

“I’ll do it” Tom offered. He went up to the desk and I waited by the door. I could easily have followed him and listened to what he said, but I didn’t. I had no idea why, but I felt that if I were ever going to find out his real name, I’d want to hear it from him. I waited, and Tom returned a few minutes later.

“I’ll take you to him” he said “We’re allowed to visit”

I nodded and followed Tom. It seemed only hours ago that I was in this same hospital visiting my parents. It still felt equally as terrifying. The halls of the hospital were eerily silent. With every step I took, my feet clicked against the fallaciously hollow floor and the sound echoed down the corridor before disappearing into oblivion. Eventually, we reached the room, in which they were taking care of Rocket. I paused at the doorway and took a deep breath.

“Are you sure you’re ready to go in?” Tom asked, obviously sensing my anxiety.

“Yeah.” I nodded breathlessly.

“I’ll wait out here, so you can go in by yourself.” he said.

“Oh, Tom, that’s not necessary. Surely you want to see him too?”

“I think it is necessary” he winked. I rolled my eyes, but smiled a little.

“See you in a little while, okay?” he said, placing an encouraging hand on my shoulder. I nodded, smiled thankfully at him, and entered the room.
