The party lasted until quarter past midnight. Not everybody stayed that late, but there were enough people to get it going ‘til midnight.
“That’s the last of them.” I informed Melanie and Brittney who were sitting on the couch when I closed the door behind me.
“You guys, that was an amazing party. I don’t know how you booked that famous henna artist. And using those exotic-looking perfume glass vial key chains as favors is just plain genius! Thank you so much for hosting my bridal shower.” Melanie got up and hugged us both.
“You’re very welcome, sweetie.” I said.
“And to express my gratitude, I got both of you presents!” Melanie exclaimed, like the party didn’t drain all her energy at all.
“You shouldn’t have!” Britt said, although there was a twinkle in her eyes.
“One week vacation to anywhere you want to go. You can use it anytime you want and you can bring a date!” she said excitedly as she handed us the tickets. “Artie suggested it because he noticed how both of you are working so hard, both for the wedding and with your jobs. Being a nurse is not easy.”
“Wow. This is very generous of you and Arthur.” I said, overwhelmed by their kindness.
“Awesome! I can finally go to Europe!” Brittney screamed.
“Shush! The old couple might complain again.” I warned her. We’ve been reported in the past for putting music too loudly in the middle of the night.
“Sorry. But you gotta admit, this is amazing! Thank you so much Mel!” she ran up to Melanie and gave her a really big hug.
“I’m glad you two like it. I am worn out! Today was draining in a pretty good way. So we’re all sleeping in the living room, right?” Melanie asked.
“Yup, there’s a Doctor Who marathon ‘til 3.” I said excitedly.
“10 or 11?” Brittney asked about which incarnation of The Doctor we’re going to see.
“Does it matter?” Melanie said from the kitchen.
“Nope, not really.” Brittney shrugged.
“Although, I find 10 hotter than 11.” I informed them.
“They’re both hot to me.” Melanie said as she walked back with a big bowl of popcorn.
