“Why do you keep ignoring me?” he asks

“I’m not ignoring you. I’m just busy.” I say in reply. He’s been asking me to lunch for months, but I’ve been saying no.

“Okay, let me help you then.” he takes the basket of dirty toys and walks with me to the playroom where I clean.

“No, you might get in trouble. Don’t you have anything else to do?” I ask.

“I’m on my break right now.” He informs me.

“Go eat then. You won’t get another break until later tonight.” I say, repeating what he has told me from two weeks ago.

“Come eat with me.”

“Why are you so obsessed with eating lunch with me?” I ask jokingly.

“Because you never say yes. It’s been three months since I first asked you out, and you still haven’t given me a chance.” He says in a somehow sad and frustrated way. This makes me feel guilty so I say: “Fine. Put that down and go wash your hands. Let me just tell Misti that I’m gonna take my break now.” This makes him so happy that he dropped the basket loudly and yells “YES!”

“Shush! You have to act professionally Doctor Tom.” I say with emphasis on doctor.

“Sorry. You just made me so happy, that’s all.” He says, still smiling.

“Stop acting like a teenage boy. I’m the one who’s younger here.”

“Aright, I’m sorry ma’am. Although, I can’t promise it won’t happen again.”

“Karen, wake up!” I heard Melanie say.

“What?” I asked groggily.

“Stop giggling! It’s 8 o’clock in the morning and I can’t go back to sleep because of you!” she said grouchily.

“Sorry, Grumpy. And you’re not supposed to go back to sleep anyway. Today’s your dress fitting, remember?” I said, and stretched out.

“Yea, I feel special. Kristopher scheduled it on his rest day. But we have over two hours to spare. Do you know why you were snickering in your sleep?” she asked.

“I don’t remember.” I answered truthfully. I had no idea what I dreamt of, but I had that cheerful feeling inside of me meaning I had a delightful dream.

“Do you want to know?” she asked, suspiciously excited.

“Sure, why not?”

“You were talking in your sleep again, and you said his name. Then you started giggling.” I knew right away who ‘he’ was.

“We were talking about him last night. It’s not a big deal.” I said.

But she made it a big deal. “Can’t you see? Even your subconscious is telling you that you really miss him!”

“Sure, Melanie. And please, let’s not start our day like this. Stop pushing him to me. If he’s the right guy then he will come naturally, without anyone’s intervention. Come on; let’s get breakfast so we won’t be late for the fitting. You wouldn’t want Kristopher waiting.”

I left the room without waiting for her reply.
