I tucked my hands in my pockets as the three of us walked in the hallway. Hearing the news from Sandy this morning, it was a shock to me. I didn't expect Vincent to disappear like that. I sighed as I lowered his head.
I knew Vincent well. In fact, we were quite similar when it came to dealing with other people. We only open up to Sandy and Juliene.
I glanced at Sandy as we walked to the stairs. Sandy was not himself. He was unusually quiet today and didn't pay attention to anyone who's talking to him. Well, that's expected. The two of them became lovers just yesterday, so it was only natural for him to be devastated.
We reached the rooftop. Juliene stretched his arms and yawned as the wind blew. "Ah..." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "It's really good here in the rooftop."
I leaned my back on the railings, Sandy sat beside the door, and Juliene stood beside me and leaned his arms on the railings.
I stared at Sandy who was staring blankly at his feet. He hadn't spoken a word after he told us what happened this morning. He kept on staring outside the window during classes. He's here, in this school, but his mind was somewhere else.
I shifted my gaze to the sky above.
After a while, Sandy stood up. "Let's go."
"Why?" Juliene asked, not turning around. "We just got here, and the weather's nice." He glanced at his watch. "And lunch time's not yet over."
Sandy tucked his hands in his pockets. "It's..." He looked around the wide space between us. "Students aren't suppose to come here, right?"
"Yeah, but hmm..." Juliene turned around. "You can go first." He smiled. "I know you don't want to come here, right? Because..."
"Ah, no." Sandy shook his head. "I-It's not that--"
"Go, Sandy." I said. "We know you want to be alone." I slightly smiled. "We understand."
Sandy, surprised at what I said, smiled. "Thanks, guys."
"We'll meet you in the classroom!" Juliene said, waving.
"Y-Yeah." Sandy waved back at Juliene and closed the door.
And suddenly, I felt the change in the atmosphere.
Juliene looked down, staring at the vehicles that come and go on the road.
We were quiet for a long time. I felt the autumn breeze touch my cheeks as the wind blew.
"He's pitiful."
I didn't speak.
"I didn't expect he'd make a move. Now."
I looked at my feet. Still, I didn't utter a word.
He took out two lollipops from his pocket. One strawberry flavoured and one orange flavoured. He gave me the strawberry one.
I looked at him.
"Don't look at me like you're going to kill me. If you want the lollipop, take it."
I pressed my lips together and took the lollipop. "Speaking another language when he's not around, huh."
He opened the orange flavoured lollipop. "Of course." He kept the wrap in his pocket and put the lollipop in his mouth. "It's an advantage."
I sighed. "Don't tell me you'll do it, too."
"Well," he stretched his arms, "it's unavoidable."
"...Is there no other way?"
"I don't know." He looked at me. "You are my first choice, so hurry up and finish it."
I chuckled. "I can't do that."
He shrugged. "See? And," He looked at the sky. "It's still too early, so wait a bit."
He turned around and walked towards the door.
"When?"
He turned and looked at me, surprised. The wind blew, making his dark hair sway with it. His blue eyes that held the ocean pierced mine.
Ah...
I fell in love again.
"Soon, I guess." He turned his back to me and opened the door. "Let's go before a teacher see us."
I looked at the lollipop he gave and kept it in my pocket.
"Yes."
