"Let's go outside for this. It could get a little messy," Cynthia suggested. They all got up from the table and walked to another circular door. Mercy put his hand on it and it turned green, beeped and the door rolled to the side revealing a concrete pavement leading up to a field of lush, green glass. It stretched on for miles in each direction with tress of every-coloured leaves surrounding the borders. Sashkia walked towards the centre of the field and stopped about 20 metres short.
"Stand back," she tells them and she flung her arms out to the side. Then she started to spin around, faster and faster until a whirlwind developed around her. The cyclone of malicious air grew taller and bigger until it was a maelstrom, and then it began to move towards them. Ripping up the ground around it, it advanced on the assembled group of people. But then it began to slow down. The hurricane slowed and then began to die down until they could all see Sashkia again. Amazingly, she looked as if nothing had changed. Her auburn bun was the same as it was before an her clothing was all the same.
"Whoa," whispered Nathan, obviously in awe of what he had just seen, "that was so cool!"
"Thank you," Sashkia told him, "but why don't you hear what Havin can do?"
"Please don't embarrass me Sashkia," the old man blushed, "I'm very delicate you know. Anyway, my ability I rather well suited to my department. Even though I am blind, when a child develops powers I can see there name and where they are. It's very strange and difficult to explain but it is almost like somebody is writing the name and coordinates in white through the blackness."
"It's really cool isn't it?" Sam asked the trio, "Thats how we found you three!" Mercy spoke next,
"My ability isn't as fancy as these two. To be honest, it's pretty boring but here we go." He took off running and after about 10 metres he began to lift off the ground. He splayed his hands behind him and took of into the sky. He did a few loops and twists and then eventually came down to the ground. He had to take a couple of steps to stop from throwing himself forward and came to a rest next to the group.
"Alright Mercy, there's no need to show off," Cynthia tutted.
"I wasn't showing off!" Mercy blushed.
"Oh yes you were!" she laughed, "Anyway, my power's pretty run of the mill as well. But like Mercy's, if you figure out what it can really do, it can be extremely desirable. Watch this." She took off running just like Mercy had but rather than taking off from the ground, she sped up until she was little more than a blur off brown leather and streaming blond hair. Then, to the boys surprise, Cynthia ran up to one of the trees and went straight through it. After a few more tree tricks she ran back to where the group were standing and skidded to a stop just in front of them.
"And you say I show off," Mercy muttered.
"How did you do that? The whole going through the tree thing?!" Nathan exclaimed. Cynthia laughed and said,
"It's like something out of a Flash comic! I vibrate my molecules so fast that they can pass through the molecules of the tree. When I found out I nearly got stuck in a tree and died!"
"So, we've seen Cynthia's power, Mercy's, Sashkia's and we heard what Havin can do. What about you Ben?" James asked to the man in the pinstriped suit behind them. He noticed then that wen they had come outside he had put on a bowler hat. He looked like someone out of the 1940's.
"My ability is rather difficult to explain," he started, "you see, I can take something, an turn into something of my choosing. After that, the thing I changed stays as a cover but when you want it to it will change into the other thing. Do you understand? Why don't one of you 4 give me something and I'll show you?"
"Ok," James said and he took off his watch, "just don't destroy it. It cost me fifty pounds." Ben took the watch out of James' hands and cupped his two hands together with the watch between them. They all gathered round as they watched the watch in Ben's hands begin to change. It was very strange. It sort of wavered, as if it was a painting an someone was moving the colours about and then the shape of a small dagger appeared. It was beautiful. The handle was made up of lots of swirling strips of metal and the cross-piece was curled up at the ends to provide protection. The blade was tapered towards the end and looked sharp and deadly. The most astonishing part, however, was the other end of the handle. It was shaped into the mural of a dragon with a gleaming amber crystal clamped between its jaws, giving the illusion of fire brewing in the back of its throat. As quick as it had appeared, the dagger reformed into the shape of James's watch with one small detail changed. Instead of there being a horse in the middle of the clock face, there was the mural of a dragon. Ben handed the watch back to James.
"Anytime you want the dagger, just think about it with the watch in your hand and it will appear."
"That's awesome!" Joseph shouted enthusiastically, "Try it out!" James stared at the watch in his hand and thought of the beautiful dagger he had seen in Ben's hands a moment ago. As if on cue the watch in his hands morphed into the dagger.
"That's so cool," James whispered to himself.
"Anyway, now that you've Sen out powers, I think it's time that Emily here gave you a tour of our institute. You'll be staying for a while so you ought to get to know your new home. Welcome to The Order recruits," Mercy grinned.
