Pieces of shattered glass tinkled around Joseph as he fell to the floor and his certain death. Strangely, everything seemed to slow down and James thought of a film he had seen once. 'The Matrix' he recalled. It's funny how your brain thinks about the strangest thing when you're about to die. It just kind of accepts it and moves on. Just as he had accepted that he was going to die, Sam was next to him.
"Hold on," he said calmly, and with a small pop, he and James were safely on the ground. James looked at his companion and then promptly turned round and vomited on the pavement.
"That happened to me the first time as well, it gets better each time it happens," Sam told him.
"How did you-" James began and then turned and vomited on the street again.
"Well that's new," said Sam, leaning over and watching James spilling his guts onto the floor.
"Uh, guys?" said Nathan
"Yeah?"
"Aren't you all forgetting something?" he said as he pointed above head. They all looked up and saw the monster flying down from the smashed window towards them. It mashed it's teeth together and howled in annoyance. It landed on the ground and snarled at all 4 of them. Then it turned to look at Sam,
"How did one of the Order get here?" she questioned angrily.
"He's ours banshee," Sam spat, the word 'banshee' seeming to fly out of his mouth. With a flick of his wrist a short bladed sword appeared binto his hand. He closed his eyes, and with that 'pop' sound disappeared. The creature looked bewildered for a second but then her face resumed her cold, slate like expression and began advancing on the remaining boys.
"Now I have you all to myself," he laughed. Scraping her long, yellow nails along the tarmac road.
"Uh, Sam?" Joseph asked the air around him, "Little help?" But no help appeared. It seemed that they were on their own in this. The banshee was closing in on them and her leg muscles were beginning to tighten in anticipation, ready for the pounce that would end the helpless victims in front of it. The boys looked to one another in fear and desperation, but none of them knew what to do. Suddenly, the monster's legs uncoiled like primed springs and she sprung at the boys, her jaws wide open to devour one of them whole. In a panic reflex James flung out his hands, not quite knowing how it would help. But surprisingly, as soon as the body of the banshee touched his outstretched fingers, she let out a scream of pure, unbridled agony and then blew into smithereens, splattering herself over the street and walls around them and the quivering boys in front of them. James stood there, his mind racing but not able to comprehend what had just happened in front of him. His legs shook from exhaustion and he fell backwards, just seeing a pair of adult hands reaching out to catch him before he fell into complete unconsciousness.
