The two boys sat, frozen in fear, as the crimson river flooded towards them. Neither of them could move but they both realised at the same time that they needed to go before someone found this. Joseph was the first to stand. His face was like a blank slate, not giving anything away but James could see in his eyes that he was both terrified and grossed out at the same time.
"Joseph-" James tried to say.
"Don't," Joseph cut him off, "we need to get out of here. Now!" James nodded and Joseph hauled him to his feet. He stumbled after him out of the door, horrified at what he had just caused with his own hands. He and Joseph got outside quickly and ran to find their friends. Sam saw them first and began asking anxiously,
"Joseph? James? Where have you guys been? We were wor-"
"Guys, we don't have time to explain," James began, "but we need to leave right now. You have to trust me on this one."
"Okay James, but where are we going?"
"I don't know yet, but we need to get as far away from here as possible. Who's house is the closest?"
"Yours James, ours are all too far away,"
"Okay, let's go." And they all took of, running to James' house as quickly a they could.

They arrived at James' house, breathless from running and from the exhilaration of leaving school so early.
"Right James," Sam started, "you owe us an explanation of what happened?"
James quickly told them what had happened in the Science lab not 30 minutes ago.
"Hold up," Sam interrupted, "you're saying that I'm the only one now who doesn't have powers? That's bullshit!"
"Sam, we've got more important things to worry about right now," Nathan said sternly.
"Sorry," he mumbled.
"So what are we going to do?"
"I'm going to go grab some stuff for us all for starters," James told them, "and then we need to find somewhere where we can figure out how we use these powers without hurting anyone."
"Sounds like a plan to me," Joseph inputted.
"Okay, I'll see you guys in a couple of minutes," James said and he bounded off to his mum's apartment door.
