James woke the next day feeling refreshed and energetic. He had had a good night sleep and was ready to go into his first day full of vigour. He undressed and pulled in his obligatory jumpsuit, tying the red rope belt around the back. He put his right hand (which had been scanned into the system the day before) onto the door scanner and with a quiet 'shunk' sound it slid to the side. He stepped out into the corridor and made his way to the dining hall for breakfast. When he walked through the door, he saw that he was one of the first people there, he always had been punctual, and that there was a mouth watering buffet of any breakfast food you could have wanted. From pancakes to scrambled eggs, it was all there. He wet to grab a plate and was roughly shoved aside by a big 16-17 year old boy with shaved off hair and rings through his nose and ears.
"Watch it red vine," the boy said, "higher ranks get first choice." He and his friends lumbered forward grinning malicious gap-toothed grins at James, who was on the floor. Then Joseph was there, grasping James' arm and pulling him up off the floor.
"This is starting to get a bit of a habit isn't it?" he laughed. James' other friends were behind Joseph and Sam said,
"Don't worry about Graham there, he thinks he's one of the best fighters in The Order but everyone's jut to scared to face him."
"Well that's gonna change soon," James muttered, "that idiot needs taking down a peg or two."
"Let's get breakfast guys, I don't wanna stand around while everyone else gets the good stuff!" Nathan exclaimed, pushing the others towards the buffet. James filled his plate sky high with sausages, bacon, fried eggs and numerous other items that made his mouth water and his tastebuds burst. There was a general hierarchy to the tables, James saw. The newest recruits sat nearest the door and then all the way up to next to the head table, where all the gold and silver staff members sat, were the black piped graduation year students. After breakfast Sam showed them the training rota.
"It stays the same every week for the students already here," he told them, "the new students get added in as they come. I've gotta go guys, my physical training starts in 5 minutes and Coach hates it when I'm late. Catch you later!" And with that he ran towards the training corridor. James and his friends looked at the rota and he saw that his first training session was powers and it was with 'Shadow Wind' in 1 hour at 10am. His physical was with Coach Grey 4 hours after that at 2pm.
"Looks like some people get the really crap slots," Nathan said, "I've got a physical at 9pm. That's bull," he said, pouting. His friends all laughed at him and he gave them all death stares.
"Where do we go when we haven't got a session?" Joseph asked them.
"Didn't Emily say something about some kind of communal practice place?" Nathan answered.
"Oh yeah," James remembered, "I know where it is. Come on guys." They made there way to the practice arena and walked in to absolute chaos. People did whatever they wanted to as long as they were practicing. James saw Graham standing in the middle of his lackeys. Chunks of rock and stone were rising up from the ground in front of him and he would either fling them somewhere or crush them. None of them knew what to do so in unanimous decision they decided to sit down in the stands and watch some of the other recruits. About 50 minutes later, James stood up and told his friends that he was going to his training lesson. Even though the training rooms were next door, James didn't want to be late and he didn't know where Shadow Walker taught. He walked up and down the corridor, looking for Shadow Walker's door but no doors had names on them. Only symbols. There were trees, stars, animals of all shapes and sizes and so many more but he couldn't figure out how to find Shadow Walker. He started to panic but then took a deep breath and began to think logically. What kind of symbol would quantify to his trainer's name? Well, the obvious choices were shadows and wind, so maybe he should look for something like that. 5 minutes later he found what he was looking for. A picture of a man melting into shadows. He stood up straight and knocked loudly on the door. The door swung open and inside he saw the person who he would be training him for the next few years of his life.
"Hello James. Come in,"
