[ Hey guys i'm going out of town soon and probably won't update for a while so i thought i would add this chapter and leave you guys with a cliffhanger i know that is so mean but keep enjoying the story Thank you btw the picture is What Ara's dad looks like]
We looked up to see guards pointing at me. My eyes widened with fear. My father glared at them and looked at the dauntless guards next to me who had their weapons drawn. "You heard me get her out! Go!" They nodded and grabbed my arms and started to drag me away.
"Dad! Dad!" I shouted back to him. But he waved for me to go and we ran towards the entrance and back to the SUV.
"Zeke! Zeke!" I called out and I saw him lift his head then run towards me.
"What's going on, Ara!?"
"Get me out of here quick!" I pulled open the back seat door and hopped in. "Zeke! Hurry!" He ran around the car and got into the driver's seat. "Where's Eric? He's still inside but I'm not safe take me back to Dauntless now!" I pleaded and with that he stepped on the gas and we sped away. I could see multiple guards watching our car drive away. I leaned into the seat and sighed in relief.
"That was a close one." I whispered to myself. I watched the buildings go by until we finally made it back to Dauntless before I was about to get out of the car Zeke stopped me. He turned to face me from the driver's seat and whispered, "what was that about back there?"
I caught my breath and spoke up, "I don't know, Zeke. Everything happened so fast. Jeanine sent her men after me. My father told me to get out that I was in danger."
He shook his head. "Christ! Ara that's bad news. You don't want to be on Jeanine's hit list!"
"I know Zeke! I know this! She's crazy." He shook his head "alright alright stay quiet. Now tell me why did you really want to go down there?" I sighed, "I needed to know more information about the Awakened."
"The Awakened? What are those?"
"They were involved in the war. They are the reason the city looks like this." His eyes widened. "They did all this. Oh Ara what did you get yourself into!"
I was getting frustrated. "You don't understand Zeke!"
"Then help me understand!"
"It's not that simple! I can't tell you. Not right now."
He sighed and got out of the car and opened my door so I could get out. I jumped out and we walked back to the entrance of the compound.
"Ara, you can trust me okay?"
"Okay Zeke."
"Then tell me."
"Not right now."
I continued walking till I was back inside Dauntless. I looked at Zeke. "What time is it?" He looked at his watch. "Fear simulations are over for now it's lunch time." Wow already. "Well I don't know about you but I'm starving I'm going to get food." I ran off before he could answer me. When I got into the mess hall I saw Kyra, Nina, and Peter sitting where we usually sit. I smiled and ran over to them and sat down.
"Hey guys!"
"Ara, where have you been you missed fear simulations?"
"Oh I was with Eric. We had some business at Erudite."
"Erudite! But it's not safe for you there!"
"Shh I was fine I just saw my father."
Kyra rolled her eyes. "If you say so...wait didn't you say you went with Eric? Where is he?" "I got back before him. It's okay he knew." Nina's eyes widened as she patted my hand. "He doesn't look like it. You know big man doesn't scare me but his facial expression actually looks pretty frightening."
I gulped and turned around he spotted me and strode over to me and grabbed my arm lifting me out of my seat. He didn't even bother to tell my friends that he was taking me. He dragged me out of the hall and into the hallway towards his apartment. He opened his door and pulled me inside closing it and locking it behind me. He let go of my arm and set me on the couch.
I wasn't exactly excited about what was going to happen next.
I sat there on the couch fiddling with my fingers. I refused to look at him. Did he hear about that stunt Jeanine pulled? Was he working against me now? Tears began to prick my eyes but I quickly wiped them away. "Ara, look at me?" I lifted my head up to look at him. He looked betrayed, hurt and furious at the same time. "Ara where did you go? I couldn't find you! I was scared that your brother got to you!" I flinched at the tone of his voice.
"I had to leave early."
"Why?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"Then help me understand." My mind flashed back to the conversation with Zeke. They said the exact same thing. I bit my lip questioning whether or not I could trust him. "I just wanted to see my dad and I knew he would be with Jeanine so I went to her office." I looked down hoping he would take that answer it wasn't a complete lie. When I looked back up his arms were crossed, "then tell me why a ton of guards were after you?"
"I was in a hurry."
"uh huh sure. Why don't you stop stalling and just tell me the truth."
I bit my lip so hard it started to bleed I could taste the iron from my blood in my mouth. I sighed. "I'm different Eric that's all I can say right now."
"I can't help you if you don't tell me."
"I can't tell you Eric! I don't know whose listening I don't know if my brother has set a bug on you. I can't tell anyone what's going on!"
"Fine Ara don't tell me. I'm disappointed in you."
"Eric I want to tell you but it's life or death. I don't know if I can trust you." That must have hit him very hard and at that point I wish I hadn't said that. I could see the hurt flash in his eyes. "Ara I'm your boyfriend and friend. Of course you can trust me. But if you're having a problem with our trust then maybe we shouldn't even be together..."
My heart shattered at that very moment he did not just say that. The tears finally broke through and I couldn't bear to look at him. I jumped off the couch and opened his apartment door and ran back to the dorms. I found my cot and threw myself onto it letting the tears roll down my face. How could he say that to me? I told him this was life or death situation for me I didn't want to lose anyone else but in protecting my friends I lost the only one keeping me going.
What am I supposed to do now?
