Chapter 20

           

I woke up the next morning to Zeke shaking my shoulder. I groaned, "5 more minutes." I heard Zeke chuckle and reply "Come on Ara you get one more chance to practice before your final simulation performance." My eyes flew open and jumped out of bed and pushed him away so I could get changed. He laughed and waited for me. When I was dressed we made our way out of the dorm where Taylor and Kyra were waiting for us.

"About time you got out of bed, Ara." Kyra remarked. "Haha very funny Kyra I didn't sleep well too much on my mind." She nodded and hugged me. "I'm sure Max and Eric will figure things out let's just get through the day." I nodded and hugged her back then we were on our way to breakfast. Nina and Peter had already finished eating. I swear they are perfect for each other both are little piggys. I laughed out loud at that thought and everyone looked at me weird but I ignored it and sat down grabbing a waffle and spreading blackberry jam on it. My absolute favorite. After I was full on waffles and orange juice. All the initiates headed to the simulation room where Four was waiting for us.

"This morning is your last day to practice fear simulations. Remember act like a dauntless. Do what a Dauntless would do." He said the last two sentences while looking me dead in the eye. "Alright we will call each of you one by one like always. Ara you're up first." I got out of my seat and glanced over my shoulder to see Zeke following me. Four raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms.

"Zeke, you can wait outside."

Zeke puffed out his chest and looked at Four, "with all due respect Four I was ordered to stay by her side where she goes." Four nodded and bit his lip. "Zeke, please she is in no danger with me you can trust me." I looked between Four and Zeke and decided to step in before a bigger scene unfolded which I didn't need right now. I placed my hand on Zeke's arm, "Zeke he's right I'm in no danger with him go ahead and wait outside the other door for me and I swear if you hear anything suspicious you can burst through the door. Deal?" He looked down at me and then at Four and replied, "Deal." I smiled and watched him leave the room  and head down the hallway where I would be exiting. "Well now that is settled. Come on in." Four opened the door and I stepped into the all familiar room. I sat down in the chair and waited for him to give me the shot.

"Now Ara remember what I said think Dauntless. If you don't act like a dauntless you could get yourself killed at the final presentation." I nodded. He moved forward and gave me the shot I shut my eyes and everything went black.

Think Dauntless. Be Dauntless. Think Dauntless. Be Dauntless. I repeated to myself I waited for the scene to unfold. My room appeared before my eyes. I looked around my room until my eyes landed on my door. I knew who exactly was going to come through that door and I was ready. I then heard the voice again. You can take him out. You're strong Ara. I nodded and the door flew open. And there was my brother standing in the doorway.

I opened my eyes. I knew exactly where I was. Erudite. I looked around my room and prepared myself for my brother to make his grand entrance this time I was going to be ready for him. On que the bedroom door slammed open and I was then face to face with Vincent. I could feel the fear trying to take over me my heartbeat started to beat faster. I shook my head and glared at him I strode right up to him and punched him in the face. The vision of Vincent let out an oof! From the hit but I knew that wouldn't bring him down. He turned to look at me rubbing his jaw. "You little bitch, how dare you hit me!" He roared. I glared at him. "Like you have room to talk you ruined my life. Dauntless was my escape!" He laughed and shook his head. "Oh no little sister you won't escape from me so easily. Don't act like I don't know what you are." Those words scared me. He grinned knowing he had me. "I know you aren't normal. You're a freak." I screamed at him, "I'm not divergent. You know nothing." He shook his head, "of course you aren't divergent no you're just like father. An Awakened. I thought they were extinct but it looks like they aren't."
