"Do you have any idea how fast you were going, kid?"
I hand the officer my license and say, "I don't know, fifty?"
"Try eighty-three, son."
I sigh and rest my hand on my leg, of which is twitching in irritation. "First of all: I am not your son. Second of all: I'm sorry for speeding, sir, but I'm in a hurry."
"Kevin, do you understand your position here?," the police officer says, pulling out a tablet of paper. "You see, I'm the police officer that stopped you from making a horrible mistake by speeding, and you're the speeder that could killed yourself or anyone around you."
I roll my eyes. "Okay, thank you so much officer for this wonderful time we've spent with each other, but I've really got to go."
"Okay, kid," he says, sighing. "I'm just going to give you a ticket and you can be on your way."
"Thank you," I say.
As the officer is writing the ticket, some blurred noise comes from his portable radio. He sighs, muttering something about how the damn thing never works, and talks into it.
"I'm sorry, Joe, could you repeat that?"
"This is an announcement to all officers in the area," The a man says through the radio, slightly less staticy. "We got a Code 10 accident on Queen's, possibly even a 10-45D."
"A black van driven by a teenager has recently crashed," Says a lady. "He's in bad shape. All available police come to the sight at once to find the source of the crash."
"Okay, I'll be right on it," the officer says. He packs up his pad and paper, hands me a note and walks away.
"Sir, what does all that code mean?"
"A crash in this area. Code 10 means critical trauma, and a 10-45D means possible death. Must've been a reckless driver, I presume," The officer sighs and shakes his head. "Be safe on your way home, son. There's a crazy person out driving tonight."
My stomach drops and I grip onto the steering wheel. My heart aches and I just feel like breaking down. But, instead, I get out of my car and look at the policeman.
"Uh, officer," I say, clearing my throat. "I need you to take me with you."
"Don't be ridiculous, just go home," The officer sighs.
"I was speeding to find him. The person that crashed," I say. I run a hand through my hair and sigh. "Dammit, this is all my fault."
"Okay, get in," The officer says after a minute of thinking. "But I need a serious explanation."

The conversation in the car:
"I was trying to help this girl study, when she suddenly attacked me. I tried to fight back, but I couldn't. Then, this boy comes in and sees it. And he runs away. And I don't want him to have the wrong idea, so I ran after him. You get it?"
"But what's he to you? Why'd you run after him?"
"He's my boyfriend. Of course I'd run after him."
Silence.
"I can't take you to the scene, but I can take you to the hospital that your boyfriend will be taken to. Is that okay?"
A silent, but noticed, nod of the head.
