Fuck those teachers. It was only the third day of school and we were already learning stuff. Heck, we even had an essay due for language arts tomorrow. I still was deciding whether I was going to do it or not, but yea like that was going to happen. I've already been yelled at for not doing homework. Even if I knew that I should do some of the more important school work, I procrastinated so much that in the end I don't want to put the effort into doing it.

"Mr. Howell, where's your essay," my teacher asked me when I came in the next morning.

Everyone looked at me, I was the only person who didn't do the assignment. Ugh, what if everyone in this class actually does the homework. I was probably going to have to do it too then so I don't stand out.

Stand out? You already stand out you idiot, you're the kid who wears all black and always sits in the corner, you're the only one who doesn't smile, you're the only one who doesn't have a group of friends to chat with.

I chuckled out loud, but when I came out of my thoughts and snapped back into the present moment I saw my teacher was standing right in front of me. She gave me a look like she was staring at the devil. That's when I remembered I had laughed out loud. Oh shit, she probably thought I laughed at her. Why do I always get myself in these types of situations?

"Daniel!" the teacher yelled.

"S-sorry," I stuttered, "and no I didn't do it."

The teacher glared at me and practically stomped back to her desk. It made me kind of scared and made everyone in the room go silent. Wow, only four days into the school year and I had already gotten a teacher to hate me. Good job Dan.

As soon as the bell rang I sprung out of my seat and ran to my locker to get lunch before the hallway mob showed up.  Then I thought, maybe I could go to the library for lunch. I like libraries, they were peaceful and quiet. They smelled nice too, like books and coffee the librarians always bring in for themselves. Most libraries had comics I could read. I loved reading comics, especially Japanese manga. They were all very interesting, unique, and were a good distraction from my thoughts.

The library was right next to my locker which was quite convenient. There was also a very few amount of people in there which was nice. I looked around a bit, my lunch could wait.

After about a little over five minutes I found the graphic novels section, and to my surprise there was a pretty big selection to choose from. I searched around until I found what I was looking for, the first volume of a series called Death Note. I had heard about it online, it was a pretty popular and the summary seemed pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try.

To my surprise though, when I reached to grab it I hit someone else's hand.

I looked up and saw Phil. Damn, I was able to not see him for the whole entire day yesterday and now here he was in front of me yet again. Surprisingly I was the first one to speak, which was a rare thing for me.

"S-sorry, did-dn't see you there," I blabbered out unarticulatly.

"Didn't see you either, here you can have it," Phil said grabbing the manga and holding it out to me.

"N-no it's fine take it for yourself," I answered not wanting to be selfish. I found it sweet that Phil had automatically made a move to give the book to me.

Phil shook is head. "Take it!" he said insistently, but with a kind tone.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw the librarian chuckling. It made me blush, I knew she was chuckling because we were acting oddly. It made things even more awkward for me, because obviously now Phil could see that my face was tomato red. I curled my right hand into a fist and started biting my lip, usually things I did when I felt more anxious than usual.
