My chest tightened as I walked into the doors of Beach City High School. It was my first day at my new school and I was already late. My dad forgot to wake me up and my mom was already at work. I glanced down at my schedule. First hour was nearly over, there was only 5 minutes left so I set off to find my locker instead of going to class. I found locker 268 in a few minutes and it opened surprisingly easily. I shoved my books inside and closed it quietly.
I pulled my schedule out again, history was next. I sighed, history was probably my worst and least favorite class. The bell rang and I headed off to find room 312. I was terrified it would take me a long time to find it, but I made it two  minutes before the bell rang. I had no idea where to sit so I just sat down in the back.
The teacher walked in to the classroom. He was middle aged with a graying beard. He walked up to the whiteboard, uncapped a black Expo marker and wrote his name on the board: Mr. Otis. "Hello class. My name is Mr. Otis. As you know, this is history class. Today, we have a new student joining our district. Lapis Lazuli, will you please stand up and tell us a little about yourself?"
I cleared my throat. "My name is Lapis." I stammered and blushed, "I like swimming and listening to music and yeah..."
I sat down, embarrassed of my social skills. I didn't like to be noticed, even though I had my hair dyed blue and I was tall so that made it pretty impossible. I stared straight ahead at the teacher, trying not to look at anyone else. I heard people around me snickering at me; I pretended not to hear.
One girl whose desk was near the door wasn't laughing, I doubt she even paid attention she was too into reading her book. She had glasses and fluffy blond hair. She looked pretty short.... and sorta cute. I blushed, stop thinking Lapis!  Being the subtle person I am, she noticed I was staring at her and glared at me. I sunk down in my chair. So far, my first day was disaster.
