I was relieved when the bell rang to signal lunch was over; I didn't have to watch Peridot anymore. I pulled out my schedule and looked at what class I had next. A double math and next, a double English. Then study hall.
Math passed by quickly. I had a seat diagonal from Peridot so I could look at her every once and a while. Before I knew it, I had doodles of Peridot all over my notes. I flipped to the next page of my notebook and tried to pay attention. My teacher, Ms. Ackerly, had a high annoying voice and paying attention to it was starting to give me a headache. To top that off, she was bad at explaining the lessons. I was glad to get out of that class.
English went by extremely quickly. It was my second favorite subject and we were learning about Shakespeare. We each got a script to read titled, "Romeo and Juliet". Peridot didn't seem too thrilled about our reading assignment. She put the script in her bag as soon as we got it instead of following along like she was supposed to. I was tempted to tell the teacher, but I didn't.
I was excited to go to study hall! I'd get to read in quiet, right? Haha nope. The teacher fell asleep in the first five minutes and then everyone started talking. I tried to read my book, but then someone started throwing spit wads at me. I looked up, irritated. There she was, Peridot, giggling like a dork. "Hey, could you please stop?" I asked.
"I could.... but I won't!" She giggled again.
Boy was her giggle irritating! I slouched down and started trying to read "Romeo and Juliet" again. Peridot switched to crumbling sheets of lined paper and launching those at me. I tried to ignore her since teachers always said that the bully would get tired and stop. 10 minutes later, I was still stuck with the same Peridot problem. I glanced around the room, looking for Peridot's girlfriend. She had a seat in the back and she was sleeping. If only there was a way to wake her up without Peridot noticing. I leaned over to tap the girl next to me when Peridot cleared her throat. "Lazuli is talking during class!"
The teacher looked up and everyone went silent. "Lazuli! This is your warning. Now be quiet."
The class pretended to work on homework and I was relieved: I could finally read "Romeo and Juliet"! But not even 5 minutes later, the teacher fell asleep. Again. I prepared myself to be pelted with spit wads, but nothing happened. I looked up and Peridot wasn't there. She was across the room talking to her girlfriend. I couldn't help but feel sad. I might've liked the attention from her? Stop! I bit my lip and looked at the wall. What did I even like about her? I couldn't help it, I looked at her again. Her hair sticking up, her annoying laugh, her great figure.... what was there not to like about her? She was way out of my league. I opened my laptop and started to write.
