"Wait, what?"
I ring my fingers through my hair.
Dimitrio looks at me from the dining table where I was trying-key word trying- to explain what happened with Ashley.
"Tell me what happened again."
I sigh. "She can't be controlled."
"Maybe you didn't have enough power."
"Trust me, I did, I could feel it."
Dimitrio rubs his beak with his wing.
He looks different. Almost...... Bigger? His feathers look darker, too.
"I think I know what's up with her."
I look up. "What?"
"Ashley. I think she was too angry for you to control. Back home, I read that some humans have a lot of energy inside them, and that sometimes makes them immune to us. It only happens a few time though. So you might be able to control her later on."
We stay silent for a few moments.
"Have you gotten any power?"
I nod. "Yeah, got a ton. Humans are complete weaklings. Y'know Ashley kicked me? Like she thought it would hurt."
He runs his wing over his beak. "Y'know, I think we should put it to some use. If you know what I mean."
I grin. "Yeah."
Suddenly, a flash of silver slices trough the air.
Glass explodes around me as the window breaks.
A puddle of black slithers into the apartment.
I jump up, grabbing the closest thing to me.
A lamp? Whatever.
The puddle slips up, forming a wraith with glowing white eyes.
It has a slice for a mouth with strings of white, almost like thread, connecting the two parts of its lips. The slice of its mouth turns up at the corners, it's freakish eyes gazing at me hungrily.
It glides forward, shadows building it up as it moves.
I clench my jaw and swing the lamp forward, slicing it through its center.
Its shape dissolves around the lamp and reforms.
Its gruesome mouth twists up into a grin and it rushes forward.
A tendril of shadow slices against my chest, leaking blood.
It spreads out, black spreading onto the wall and flipping over furniture.
I jump forward, propelling myself so my feet fly forward first.
They go through straight through the wraith and I crash into the wall.
My arm bends strangely, sending sparks of pain through my chest.
The wraith turns, its face stretching out. It slithers in front of me.
A putrid smell suffocates my lungs.
Its mouth stretches wide, wider, wider, until its corners touch the top part of its face, it's eyes stretching gruesomely.
It comes closer still, tendrils of it wrapping around my legs.
I grip the lamp tightly and slice at the ribbons of black.
They dissolve then reform, wrapping tighter.
I concentrate, trying to hear its thoughts.
They reverberate through my skull, confused thoughts drowning out my own.
EAT DESTROY KILL EAT FOOD OBEY EAT FOOD KILL DESTROY EAT FOOD EAT FOOD SYLT DESTROY EAT
I shudder and concentrate.
The tendrils warp themselves around my chest, cutting into it.
I take a breath and close my eyes.
I pull at the jumble of thoughts in the wraith's head. I feel the thing shudder and falter.
Its tendrils convulse and shake, cutting my body and neck.
I stretch out my arms, pulling at the wraith's thoughts sharply.
Its confused thoughts jumble and smooth over, into tendrils of energy that wrap around my muscles.
I grin. Wide, wider, and wider, until my face is stretched twice its size.
My eyes narrow into slits. The wraith melts and its black shadows flow around me.
The wraith grows smaller and smaller.
I grin wider. The shadows boost me up, forming huge, black claws for arms and legs.
I slice at the wraith and it hisses.
I slice at it again, black oozing out of it.
I slice at it again and it dissolves.
"Father..... Say....... Hello," it hisses.
It fades away, leaving a black mist that clings to my shrinking form.
