Comatose - Joey Stamper fanfic

Chapter 6

It has been a month since Joey had last seen his parents and was back at the hospital. Kalyn had been moved from intensive care to a unit for coma patients. Her state the same even after having a surgery on her brain to remove scared tissue and drain excess blood.

Joey had taken it worse and worse each day. His skin was no longer the deep tan it once was. Instead it was now pale. His eyes had lost the spark to them. Bags developed under his eyes and his hair never properly fixed. He didn't sleep anymore, barely spoke, and now barely ever ate. Everything about him seemed to be declining. The rest of the group tried everything to cheer him up, to get him in a better state but they felt defeated with all their attempts failing.

Joey's blank stare turned from Kalyn's face to the wall calendar. It had the day that she was admitted. It had been along almost three months. The clock was ticking for her to wake up. Joeys heart sank as low as it could. He felt so emotionally drained that he just wanted to feel something. He remembered Kalyn telling him how the drugs she used to take, how they made her feel. He felt that was almost a way for him to maybe feel something other than nothing. Normal Joey would not of even thought of doing drugs, not in a million years because he saw how damaged it made Kalyn and how long she was fighting with it even after she quit. But today's joe didn't care. He just need to feel. He walked out of the hospital. Past the guys who wanted to tell him to stay but they knew they couldn't make him. The cold air was piercing at Joey breathed it in.

He walked to the nearest alcohol store, assuming that this is where druggies would be hiding out. A man dressed in black pants and a black hoodie with the hood up stood leaning against the wall of the alley with his hands in his pocket. "Do you happen to sell?" Joey asked secretly knowing it was illegal what they were both doing. "Whatcha need?" The man gruffly said. "Anything to get stuff off my mind." Joey said numbly. "$20 buck" the man blankly said. Joey fumbled in his pocket and pulled out a twenty. The man took the money and pulled out a syringe and an address. "Go here if it's your first time, I got pals there. They will have more if you need it." The man said as Joey nodded and grabbed the items. He plugged the address into his phone as he walked from the alley. It showed that the place was only a few blocks.

Joey stood infront of the house. It looked sketchy. He normally would of avoided it but instead he grinned and knocked on the door. "Who is it." A paranoid voice quickly said from behind the molding oak door. "I got sent here, it's my first time." Joey said hesitantly. The door opened revealing couples making out, other injecting themselves, or some just passed out in their own filth. Assorted drugs littered the floor. "2nd floor last room to your left, it's for the newbies." The man with missing hair and teeth said as he quickly closed the door after Joey walked in and locked it. Joey walked up the stairs and assorted noises and smells rolled from each door he passed. "So your new? What did they give you." A girl said who was the only one in the room instructed to Joey. Joey held up a syringe as he stood in the door. She stood up and took the syringe, rolling it in her hands as she observed it. "Dilaudid, nice!" She said with a devilish grin. She grabbed joeys hand as she led him over to a twin bed, it looked old, aged, and dusty but Joey could care less. "Lay down and roll your sleeves up." She said as she snapped her fingers against the syringe to eliminate bubbles. Joey threw his jacket onto the floor and removed his flannel revealing his toned muscles. She gently laid his arm across her lap as she felt of a vain in the crease of his elbow. "Get ready for a trip." She said as she inserted the needle and released the substance. Once it was in she placed joeys arm at his side. "You'll feel it soon." She said. "I'll be next door, feel free to move around." She said walking out of the door. Joey quickly flipped out his phone and reached Kalyn's contact he kept her phone next to her in the hospital incase she were to wake up when he was gone. Joey: "I'm no longer me anymore Kalyn, in not the man for you anymore, goodbye."

And with that text he forgot everything. His phone dropped to the floor as waves of feeling washed over him. An overflow of feeling, stimulus, and emotion.

"I'm worried about joe, Chad." Fallon said to her husband as she paced back and forth bitting her nails. "He probably just went back to his hotel room babe, he hasn't been sleeping well, he's probably just getting sleep. I can have  Alan check up on him since he's at the hotel and has joeys spare key." Chad said as he got his phone out to call Alan. "Hey Chad what's up?" Alan said into the phone after the third ring. "Can you check up on Joey for us we haven't heard from him for a few hours now?" Chad answered Alan. "He's not at the hospital?" Alan asked worried. "No he left like 5 hours ago, usually if he left he'd be back by now. Me and Fallon are getting worried." Chad said, his heart dropping into his stomach. "Stay on the phone I'll check his room." Alan said worried. "Ok I'll put you on speaker so Caleb and Kelsey can hear you too." Chad said as Caleb, Kelsey, and Fallon gathered around Chad.

Knocking was heard on the other end, "joe! You in there?" Alan asked. Seconds passed, no answer.  "C'mon bro answer the door." Alan said. Alan knocked once again. Once again, no answer. "I'm using the spare key." Alan said. The door softly opened. "He's gone guys, he took his phone too and didn't leave any type of note." Alan said panicky. "Excuse me, are you friends of Miss Kalyn woods?" A voice sounded, the group turned around to see a doctor with a clipboard in his hands. "That's us." Caleb said as everyone stood up and stood infront of the Doctor. "How is she?" Kelsey impatiently asked. "It's a miracle but her brain is 96% healed and she is awake and talking. Nurses just removed her breathing tubes and bandages. You can see her if you want." The doctor said with a smile on his face. "Thank you so much Doctor!" Caleb said excitedly. Everyone at this point at tears beading at there eyes. "Did you hear that Alan?! She's awake!" Chad asked happily. "I heard everything. I'm bringing down the girls be there in 5." Alan said and hung up.

Kalyn looked around her room. Confusion hit her, why was she here? She looked down to her wrists that had iv's taped to them. As she was studying all the tubes that came out of her frail body there was a soft knock on her door as it opened revealing her friends. Kelsey and Fallon came bursting through the doors crying and enveloping Kalyn into a hug. Kalyn tried to speak but her voice wasn't working properly so she just smally smiled. "We're so glad to see you awake. We missed you." Fallon said with a smile as her and Kelsey whipped their eyes as Kalyn could only look and smile as the rest of the group lined up for hugs. After all the hugs were given a nurse came in to give Kalyn a quick pain pill with water. Kalyn smiled and took it. After she drank she tried to speak after the nurse left. "What happened to me?" She asked, her voice weak and raspy. "Hunny you were shot and fell so bad you severely injured your brain. You've been in a coma for three months." Alan said as he put a loving hand on her shoulder . It hit Kalyn, the memory of everything happening. The concert, afterwards, and them walking back to the tour bus. She remembers the man in all black standing from a distance stopping them dead in their tracks then shots ringing out and then she remember Joey screaming at her to stay with him as everything went dark.

"Joey! Is he alive? He was shot too I remember that." Kalyn asked panicky as her voice began to come back. "He's alive and fine." Caleb said happily. "He's been by your side for the past three months." Kelsey said with a sad smile. "Where is he?" Kalyn asked worried. "He... He's taking some rest he hasn't really slept good since all this happend." Alan said not wanting Kalyn to worry right after waking up. "When he wakes up he said he'll call." Alan added. Kalyn nodded with a small calmed smile.

The group talked with Kalyn until it was almost midnight. "It's getting late and you need rest. We're gonna let you get sleep and Caleb and Kelsey are gonna stay here if you need anything." Chad said looking at the clock on the wall. "Yeah I'll see you guys first thing tomorrow." Kalyn said happily as she hugged everyone. Once her room was quiet she prayed a little prayer that she got to see Joey soon and then she fell asleep after her last round of meds for the night was given.
