At school Monday, it felt like Marina was trying her best to ignore me. She didn't seem like she didn't want me to kiss her. She even asked me why I stopped. I didn't understand. I knew I should've just gone to bed. I ruined everything. In 5th period, I got a text.

"We need to talk. Can you come over after school? It's important."

It was from Marina. I started to sweat, and to shake.

In 7th period she sat across from me, not making eye contact once, and when the bell rang, she left immediately and didn't even wait for me.

I went home and grabbed a bite to eat, then went to her house.

I knocked on the door, my nerves making me shake. She stood in the doorway looking flawless as ever.

"Come in." she said quietly. I followed her up to her room. I didn't know what was going to happen next.

Marina's POV

She followed me up the stairs to my room. I sat on the bed, and told her to shut the door. She did as I asked.

"Listen, about Friday night.. I.. You didn't mean to kiss me right..? We're just friends?" I asked her quietly. I wanted her to say no, and slam her lips against mine. I wanted her to hold me like Friday night, and tell me I'm beautiful.

Elizabeth's POV

Everything she asked me made it clear she wanted to be just friends. So I did what I had to to keep our friendship going.

"Yeah no, I didn't mean it. We're just friends." I said sternly.

She cleared her throat and looked down.

"Okay." she said softly.

I looked down too.

"I.." she cleared her throat again."I got you something." she said while walking over to her bedside table. She pulled out a tiny red box, and handed it to me.

I gently opened it and held up the piece of jewelry. A small mermaid sat on a rock. The charm was attached to a slim silver chain. I smiled. She coughed and unbuttoned her top three buttons on her shirt. She pulled out a necklace similar to mine. I walked closer to her and studied her charm. It was a sailor.

I smiled even bigger. I handed her the necklace and turned around. She put the necklace around my neck. It was cold and made me shiver.

I turned around and embraced her, kissing her forehead gently.

She just wanted to be friends. I could handle that.

I think.
