We both scrambled into the classroom giggling. We found seats next to each other.
The teacher told us to turn towards our neighbor and get to know them better.
We both faced each other beaming.
"Where's your accent from?" I asked her.
"Same place as me. Wales." she replied chuckling.
"Wow. Why'd you move to New York?" I asked her.
"Long story." she replied.
"Do you like music?" she asked me.
I raised my eyebrows at her and gave her a "seriously" look.
We burst out laughing.
The teacher walked over.
"I think you two will be great friends." He said, with a shy smile on his face. He was young, handsome.
When he turned around, we checked him out from the back. Marina's jaw dropped.
"He's so cute!" she mouthed at me. I giggled back, mouthing
"I know!"
"Okay so that was a stupid question." she said bluntly. "What kind of music do you like?" she said correcting her question.
"I like older music. Like Elvis." I replied back. He was my favorite out of all the records my father played.
"You?" I asked her.
"Britney, Madonna, you know the pop sound." she replied.
"Yeah I know." I replied sticking my tongue out.
"Okay, okay. Quiet down everybody." the teacher said.
"I'm Mr.Bradforth. You just did an activity, getting to know your classmates better, so I'll call on you individually and you can share something about your neighbor. Sounds good?" he said smiling.
One by one he called on us. Marina and I randomly would turn and smile at each other. She was really beautiful.
I stared and stared at her. She turned towards me again, staring back.
She stared.
And stared.
"Liz.." she whispered.
"Yeah?" I asked her.
"Elizabeth, for the fourth time." Mr.Bradforth laughed, "Would you please share with us what you learned about Marina today?"
"Oh.." I mumbled, my cheeks growing hot and red.
"Shes from Wales.." I said quietly, looking down.
"Oh wow, Welcome to New York." Mr.Bradforth said smiling.
"Marina, what did you learn?"
Marina looked at me, and smiled. I was really embarrassed and self conscious.
"That we both think your sexy." Marina mumbled under her breath, loud enough for me to hear it though. We both burst out laughing, and I could feel everyone staring, but I didn't care.
She smiled, regaining her self.
"Elizabeth loves music, and is a fan of Elvis." Marina said confidently. I looked around the room and saw people watching her with gross looks on their faces. Was something wrong with her?
"Oh how interesting! "I enjoy Elvis' music as well." he said grinning at me.
I smiled back, and watched Marina out of the corner of my eye. She looked around the room, and her smile quickly faded.
Suddenly the bell rang, and everybody rushed out of the classroom. Marina cleared her throat.
"I'll see you in 3rd?" she asked me.
"Yeah or at lunch?" I said, slowly smiling at her.
"Yeah okay." she said a small grin forming at the corner of her mouth.
"Bye Marina." I said sadly.
"Bye." she laughed.
I was going to miss her. I would see her in less than an hour, but I would miss her. It's only been a few seconds and I feel lonely again. She fills my hole. She makes me happy.
