Demon City Castle~ Demon City
The Demon King turned away from his window as the last of the Demon City patrons left the castle. He walked over to the fire place and stared into the fire, he wasn't sure what his next move was. He remembered the baby at Portal Lake the day it had frozen over. It hadn't been much to look at then. Surprising enough it was more human than Demon or it would have been hideous. The Demon King sat down on the chair that sat in front of the fire place; he alone didn't have the power to melt the frozen lake. Trying to convince Taran to help him had been a mistake in itself. The King ripped off his shirt and tossed it into the flames. His white skin glowed in the flames and the scar that ran over his left breast glowed brighter.
He touched it with his finger tips. He hadn't been sure what had happened that day, but something had caused the scar. After he had regained consciousness Taran had been long gone and he had been near death. The flames began to flicker in the hearth and the King looked towards the window. There was a flapping noise before Oleander landed on the window sill.
"Good evening sire."
"Ah, Oleander, I see your back with good news I hope?"
Oleanders head bobbed up and down as he jumped in the window and landed on the ground. It took him three hops before he was in front of the fire place. His feathers ruffled at the heat and he sighed loudly. "That cool night air just gets to your bones if you know what I mean."
The Demon King nodded his head, "I would imagine so, news of Winter?"
"Nothing that'll make you happy- they went to a festival in the Elvin Territory."
"And why wouldn't that make me happy to know?"
"Cause I lost them after that."
The Demon King turned his eyes to the big black bird in front of his fire place.
"You were very right. Why are you here then?"
"Checking in like you said to, my mate is searching for them now, she's good at tracking." Oleander turned his front end towards the flame and ruffled his feathers once more.
The Demon King stood from his chair and kicked the bird in the rear end. Oleander squawked loudly and hopped towards the window, "What was that for?"
"Maybe you should be helping your mate find them instead of warming your ass by the fire." With a flick of his wrist there was fire flying towards Oleander still on the ground.
Oleander flapped his wings quickly to get away from it and moved to the window sill. Before the next flash of fire the bird was gone.
Main Township~ Elvin Territory
"We should stop," Winter said as she pulled away regretfully from Taran, "I don't want to start something when I'm going to be leaving anyway."
Taran nodded his head and motioned behind her, "We can walk this way and come up behind the tree."
Their walk was silent all the way back to the tree. Taran climbed up the ladder first then helped Winter up. He watched her climb the second ladder and disappeared inside the dark room above. Taran followed and shut the latch, locking them inside. Winter was already sitting on the bed looking around the room partially illuminated by the moons light coming in the small windows.
"Here, let me." With a flick of his fingers there was fire inside the lamp above the bed.
Winter smiled at the light and then looked at Taran with a smile as she tried to snap her fingers like he had, "That's impressive."
