"Oh c'mon girl, this is really getting quite tiresome."

"It's really not my fault if you're so old that this is tiring."

The man only grunted in response. But soon enough, his weapon was getting closer to Aria's vital organs than she would have preferred. Trying to think of an excuse out, she noticed that the large, gated clock on the gymnasium wall stated it was 11:03 pm. "Wow, it's really late now isn't it?" She knew that her opponent wanted everyone to be asleep by 11:00 pm, at the latest. And his strict rules would not slip by for a simple match.

He quickly shot a glance at the wall where he realized that what she had said was true. He instantly dropped his weapon and ordered the guards to walk her to her room and clean the gym while he went in the opposite direction towards his room.

Aria let out a breath of relief as she was led away. The Reinforcers heavy glares still disturbed her, but she was used to the severity of them by now. The short distance between the gymnasium and her room felt like miles whenever she had to be led by those blank stares. And once her destination was reached, Aria swiftly slipped inside without a word to her tour guides.

Her room was cold. The walls were a bland shade of white and the only furniture she was allowed was a bed, a wardrobe and a bedside table with a small drawer. The only distinction from her bedroom to all the others in this building was the window. Most people here were only allowed to have a small window about the size of a Persistence standardized textbook. Her window was approximately twice that size because of her connections.

Aria was currently staring through the foggy frame. She watched the familiar spraypainted van speed past her complex. Four people jumped out of the vehicle. She recognized them as The Girl, The Ghost, The Ray and Blood Moon. The Radio and The Sk8r were waiting in the van to rescue them if needed. This had become a nightly event and if this had occurred a month ago Aria would have immediately warned The Persistence's leader. But it is a month later and the newest prisoner had informed her of the truth. Everyone else was still eating the spoonfed lies that she had begun to refuse. It was in the food. It changed their thoughts so they would become the perfect race. Of course she had doubted the prisoner's rantings, but discovered it was all true by searching her father's room. After recognizing the poison-free foods, that was the only thing she had eaten for weeks. But it wasn't enough. She noticed herself getting weaker and more tired. She needed to get everyone out. But first, she needed to escape.

Reaching into her drawer, she grabbed her black notebook. Inside were tons of scribbles for plans and crossed out doodles. Aria stuffed the notebook into her brown leather bag and filled it with other belongings. Grabbing the bag, she left the room with one last glance at her window.
