Chapter 52: Temporary

Tutop-tutop ko ang aking bibig habang pinagmamasdan si Ford na ipasok sa ambulansiya, halos wala ng buhay. Sobra siyang namumutla at nang mahawakan ko nang saglit ang kanyang kamay, naramdaman ko kung gaano iyon kalamig. It was too stiffed, too. Tila ba isa na siyang bangkay sa kondisyon niya.

That, for me, is really terrifying.

I once lost him and it broke me too much that I even almost lost myself, too. I cannot bear to lose him again this time. All of us who wanted him to stay cannot bear it.

Kung tuluyan siyang lumisan, kaya ko ba? Matatanggap ko ba? Can we all let go of him once he left us completely?

He can't die...

He can't die just like this... so early... so sudden.

"Please, I'm begging, save my brother... please..." rinig kong sambit ni ate Audrey bago tuluyang humaruruot ang ambulansiya.

Sinundan iyon ng kotse nina Kev at Vance at ang Ducati ni Wayne. Kasama ni Ford sa ambulansiya sina tita at tito. Naiwan dito ang dalawa niyang kapatid. Both of them looked completely dazed and lost.

"Let's go there. Aubrey, let's go. My car key. Where is it? Damn... I need to see my brother," ate Audrey said in a trembling voice.

"Ate... you can't drive at this state! Mapapahamak lang tayo sa gusto mong mangyari! Please, our parents are already too hurt by all of these. Huwag na tayong dumagdag pa."

"Shut up! I can fucking drive, Aubrey!"

Papasok na sana si ate Audrey sa kanilang bahay nang hawakan ni kuya ang kanyang braso. Natigilan siya roon.

"Let me drive you there. Aubrey is right. You can't drive with this condition," ani kuya.

"Don't tell me what to fucking do, Aiden. Can you please stop making it seem like you care? We both know that you don't! Stop acting! Damn it!" singhal ni ate Audrey at marahas na inalis ang kamay ni kuya na nakahawak sa kanyang braso.

"Stop being stubborn, Audrey," kuya replied, almost frowning.

"Ate... let's just come with them," Aubrey then said, her eyes, pleading.

"I don't want to," ate Audrey said with finality.

"What a prideful woman. You want to drive now, really? You believe you can do that when you're this messed up? My god, Audrey! Do you have death wishes or something?" si ate Khiana, hindi makapaniwalang nakatitig kay ate Audrey.

"I'd rather die than be in the same car with people like you."

"If you badly wanted to see your brother, at least make sure that he won't have to worry about you when he sees you. It's dangerous for you to drive at this state, Audrey. Just come with us, please," wika ni kuya sa mahinahong tono.

Bagamat napipilitan, sa huli'y pumayag din si ate Audrey na sumama sa amin patungong hospital. All the five of us were silent the whole ride, but I can feel the heaviness of the atmosphere through our deep sighs.

Pagkarating ng hospital, agad kaming nagtungo ng ICU kung nasa'n ngayon si Ford.

Sa labas no'n ay sina tita at tito na nakikipag-usap sa doktor. Nakaupo naman sa pahabang upuan sa tabi ang tatlong kaibigan ni Ford. All of them looked devastated.
