"I know you're awake."

Silence.

"Alyssa, get out before I call your dad."

I ripped the covers off and sat up, receiving a triumphant smile from my mom. I did not want to go through my dad's wake up call, it was worse than an alarm ringing in your ear.

"Alright. You get ready, and by then we should be back from the airport." Mom decided and left the room with the door hanging open.

I got off my bed and stumbled into the bathroom with half-lidded eyes. After I had brushed my teeth and taken I shower, I pulled on jeans and a red sweater. I dragged my hair into a ponytail and jumped down the stairs.

The house was empty and my bare feet made loud slapping noises as I walked across the kitchen tile. Once I had my Fruity Loops in hand, I walked to the couch and watched reruns of Doctor Who.

It was only 15 minutes later that I heard a car pull up and my favorite cousin's happy voice along with the only cousin I could hang out with at family dinners.

I opened the door and felt Cammie's little arms go around my waist as she hugged me before skipping into the house. I smiled at her sister; Clara and took the pink suitcase from her.

"You know, I think I should et some chocolate or food as a reward for what I had to go through to see you."

"What happened?" I laughed, Clara never had good experiences on a plane so she always hogged all the food wherever she was.

"The lady behind me kept kicking my seat, and my sister was so excited to see you she wouldn't shut up." The 13 year old replied, rolling her eyes when she saw that her sister had her face right in front of the t.v.

"Cammie, you're gonna get glasses like that."

"Shut up."

"You're gonna be on the naughty list now."

"Clara, I know Santa doesn't exist."

I laughed at their banter, knowing that even though Cammie was only 9 she acted a lot older.

"You have an amazing house." My aunt complimented, and setting her duffle bag down.

"It's honestly not that great. It's much smaller than our last house." My father modestly replied, leading the adults into the open kitchen.

I settled down next to Clara and watched amusedly as Cammie tried to sit on her sister's lap.

"Get off me."

"Why are you so mean? I just wanna sit with you." Cammie pouted, sitting on the floor from Clara's push.

"Stop making that ugly face, and no you don't. You just want to sit with Alyssa."

Clara turned away from her sister, tugging on my arm and letting me lead us to my room. We got comfortable on my bed, and then Clara fired questions at me.

"Cute boys? Crushes? Bullies?" She asked, resting her head on her palms.

"Yes. No. Yes, my neighbour." I answered, rolling onto my back.

"Why are they bullying you at this school? Your last school just hated you, but what did you do here?"

"I don't know, maybe because I'm the new girl? Also, the only reason they hated me was because of the rumors that those bitches spread."

"So what, you're new so they treat you like crap?" Clara raised her eyebrows.

"I guess, the guy's popular so everyone kind of just goes with it."

"Popular people annoy me. You know what's worse? When they act nice to you so you can't hate them, or you'll feel like a horrible person." She ranted and groaned.

I laughed and nodded in agreement, thinking of Ava from my previous school.

After eating dinner, we decided that Clara would sleep in my room and the rest of her family would sleep in the spare room.

Clara fell asleep ten minutes after the light switched off, but I couldn't fall asleep. I turned on my side, trying not to wake her and reached for my phone.

I browsed through Instagram, rolling my eyes when I saw a pic of Shawn and a pretty redhead kissing.

I scrolled through some more photos, occasionally double tapping. I turned my phone off when I heard footsteps outside my door.

The door opened and I saw Cammie's silhouette creeping to the bed. She came over to her sister and squeezed in. Clara hugged her and Cammie sweetly smiled and closed her eyes.

I couldn't stop the small smile that appeared on my face from their cute interaction. I tucked my phone under my pillow and closed my eyes to try and sleep.
