I blearily opened my eyes, grimacing when the sun shined in through the open window. I heard clinking in the kitchen and the sound of newspaper being read, and I raised my head with my eyes half closed.
"Good morning, Alyssa." My dad greeted, sipping from a red mug while reading the New York Times. I murmured a "morning" back, hearing my bones crack quietly when I stood up from the sofa.
"What time is it?" I asked, heading to the half bathroom that was squeezed in between the kitchen and stairs.
"8 a.m. You're going to be a little late to school." My mom answered, cutting up strawberries for the fruit bowl on the counter.
"Why didn't you wake me up then?" I asked, hurrying to the little bathroom.
"We have a meeting with the principal, so we thought you could skip 1st period." My mom's voice carried through the door and I shouted an "okay" back.
When I had dressed in my cousin's grey sweatshirt and my black jeans, I skipped down the stairs and slipped my shoes on. I sat on the sofa and browsed through my phone, waiting for my parents to get done.
My parents entered and we exited after my mom had locked the door, I sat in the back and checked my phone as I felt it vibrate.
Candice: Are you not coming to school?
Me: I'm on my way, my parents let me skip :P
Candice: Lucky, my dad would force me to school even if I was sick
Me: Lol see you at school
She didn't reply and I looked out of the window, watching other cars pass and people hurry to their destinations. I saw the homeless people sitting against the wall, watching as people passed them and some asking for money. I looked away and noticed that my mom was looking at me and I smiled.
She smiled back and motioned to my dad who was focused on the road. She reached over to the radio knob and pressed it down, playing loud music that could probably be heard outside the car.
"Oh my god! Dana! What the hell?!" My dad exclaimed, letting go of the steering wheel to push my mom's hand away and decease the volume. My mom cackled in reply and I grinned and let a few chuckles escape.
"Did you both plan this? I need another man in this house." My dad huffed, one of his hands taking my mom's and resting it in the middle of their seats. He drove for few more minutes before turning into the school's parking lot and parking.
We got out and I lead the way to the closed doors, hitching my backpack up. I opened the door and held it for my parents before following them to the office. The principal hurried to welcome my parents and slipped a late pass into my hands.
"I'm very sorry of what you have experienced in my school, Alyssa. I promise you that they will be punished." He smiled and entered his room, shutting the door and leaving me in the bustle of the office.
I crumpled the pink paper and walked down the hallways as the bell for the end of first period rang. Immediately class doors opened and students filled the hallway with chatter. I pushed through the crowd, ignoring the calls of annoyance. I finally entered my second class, greeting the teacher and settling down in my seat.
A pair of hands landed on my shoulders and I jumped, a little squeak escaping my lips. I heard loud laughs behind me and turned around with the best glare I could produce. Candice continued guffawing, leaning on the desk behind her for support as she threw her head back.
"The s-sound you made! Oh my god, that was the best!" She laughed, seating herself next to me and resting her head on my right shoulder. Naomi walked into the class a few minutes later with a blue haired girl accompanying her. Naomi walked toward us while the girl talked with the teacher.
Naomi slid in beside Candice. Candice nodded her head in greeting against my shoulder and I saw Shawn enter with his friends.
Shawn walked to me with Lee following, sitting down next to me. He looked to me and smiled, before talking with Lee. I looked at the board as the teacher called for silence.
"I need you all to get a computer from the trolley here. Please log in and wait for further instruction." She ordered, neatly writing the date in the corner of the white board.
We all got up and acquired a laptop, logging in and continuing our conversations. I smiled and watched Shawn type with his index fingers only, Lee pressing random keys to irritate him. I looked out my right and saw Candice filling a form out while Naomi looked at memes on the Internet.
When I first moved to New York, I didn't expect to stay for long. Although I had wanted to leave Colorado, I didn't because my whole life was there even if I had lost a majority of it because of a misunderstanding I wasn't allowed to explain.
I laughed when Shawn whacked Lee and gave me his laptop while Lee and him fought playfully. I quickly typed in his information and placed it back in its former position, looking as Candice filled out the same form with a small stack of filled papers resting next to her laptop.
I hoped that the rest of my high school career could continue like this, always having people to rely on. I smacked Candice and Shawn's arms when the teacher started telling us what our assignment was. Candice ignored me and Shawn pouted and smacked me back before moving away so I couldn't hit him back.
I started the assignment, trying my hardest to ignore Shawn's pleading for help. Of course in the end, I helped him and Lee with Naomi listening in and copying what we did.
I really hoped I got to keep these people next to me for the next three and a half years.

That was really hard. I can't believe that this book has ended! 😟I hope that wasn't too much of a crap ending, I just didn't know how else to end it.
There is not going to be a sequel or spin-off sorry. I am however planning another book, I'm not going to be uploading it for a while though.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACHING ALL THE WAY HERE AND STICKING WITH ME! :) I love you all and please vote and comment and share! ❤️
