The silk lining glided over Clary's head, and for a second, all she could see was gold. When her head emerged from the other end of the dress, Isabelle gasped audibly. The dress was so simple, plain gold with no embellishments, so unlike how Isabelle's dress had been, yet on Clary it was perfect. Right down to the thin spaghetti straps which left most of her shoulders bare. Completely over her initial shock, despite having seen clary try on the dress when it had first arrived from Idris, Isabelle stepped forward purposefully with her hairbrush in one hand and dozens of bobby pins in the other. "you look gorgeous," she whispered in Clary's ear and Clary smiled nervously in thanks."I just hope Jace thinks so,"Clary whispered, practically saying nothing she was so quiet. Isabelle shouted with laughter, and said,"Jace will always think you're beautiful, even if you're wearing a garbage bag". Isabelle stepped back to admire her handiwork, and Clary had a flashback to when Isabelle had helped Clary get ready for Magnus Banes party. they had all come such a long way since then. Clary's heart softened as she remembered all of the wall's Jace had put up, and how, underneath all of that arrogance, his heart was shattered. She remembered how long it had taken her to break down all of those walls, and put the shattered pieces of his heart back together. there was a knock on the door and Isabelle's hand jerked, leaving a long streak of mascara on clary's left cheek. "come in!'' clary called out as Isabelle carefully twisted the mascara wand back into the tube. Simon entered, followed by Luke and Clary's mother, with Sebastian on her hip. Simon stood by Isabelle and gave her a quick peck on the cheek, Luke handed Sebastian the little toy he had been holding in his hand and walked out. Jocelyn grabbed a make-up remover wipe from the table and started dabbing silently at the mascara on Clary's cheek. When Jocelyn opened her mouth too speak, Clary suddenly burst into tears. Jocelyn ushered everyone out of the room, whispering to Simon to take Sebastian back to Luke. when everyone had cleared out of the room, Jocelyn sat in front of Clary and asked,"whats wrong, baby?" Clary said, in the tiniest of voices,"i'm scared. It's not that I don't want to marry him. I do. but...what will happen afterwards? will everything be the same? will everything change?". Jocelyn laughed softly." baby, you're so courageous. You always have been. It's amazing seeing the way you are with Jace. You're not less courageous. It's more like you trust him enough to be weak around him, but that vulnerability makes you stronger. And don't worry. The way he looks at you, you can tell he loves you just as much as you love him, if not more. Now lets get you sorted out, eh? all your makeup's running." Clary gave Jocelyn a shaky smile. Now she realised it. If she couldn't be with Jace, what was the point of her existence? Without him, she was nothing. Just a mundane girl living her life. And it all started that night at Pandemonium. When she had walked into that club, she'd found more than demons and Shadowhunters. She had found her other half. She was 100 percent sure. She was ready.
