— chapter 8 —
meet again.
~
selena?
no, no. it couldn't be. selena would never be that heartless. it's probably just a common name.
a hand waved over ariana's eyes.
"ariana? earth to ariana!" justin chuckled, earning a whole-hearted giggle from ariana.
"justin, i'm so sorry but could i tell you my side of the deal later? i kinda have an important thing i need to do." ariana lied. it really wasn't lying, but just the stretched out truth.
a look of confusion settled on his face.
oh god. how fucking cute.
wait what?
ariana, stop. you won't fall in love. he's gonna break you just like your ex's.
"okay, i'll see you later then?"
his sweet yet raspy voice. god help me.
ariana! stop. don't. fall. in. love.
"yeah, sure. bye." she waved farewell to him as she set off to selena.
oh, selena. you better hope it's just a coincidence that you have the same name as her.
wait what are you even thinking about, ariana?
you're really gonna choose a boy you've only known for a few weeks over your best friend of 6 years?
well, we'll see.
~
ariana decided to play it cool and invite selena to the park.
it was a divine evening in the middle of spring. flower petals were scattered all around the ground, a few floating in the cold air as well.
ariana and selena were seated next to each other on a bench, talking about the most random things like they always do.
the thought of asking selena was eating ariana up. she couldn't hold back any longer, so she blurted it out without any further thought.
"have you ever dated the prince of wenble in the past?"
selena's eyes widened but immediately went back to it's usual size.
"why would you think that? besides, you're the one dating him." she muttered, staring at the ground, denying any eye contact with ariana.
hint #1;
when someone is lying, they refuse to look directly at you.ariana sighed. she knew it would be hard to get a truthful answer from her, but she decided to keep quiet after that.
she had one plan set in her mind.
find out wether or not selena was her.
~
after another few long minutes of them conversing, selena quickly waved goodbye.
ariana wasn't ready to give up just yet.
before selena could leave the scene, ariana swiftly grabbed her wrist.
"what's wrong?" selena asked nervously, slowly turning around to face the determined girl.
"can you come over to my castle? i know we've been hanging out for the whole afternoon but-" ariana stopped, sighing. "i miss our sleepovers that we used to do as kids." ariana lied. it was a pretty good excuse for someone who only had a few seconds to think of one.
selena smiled sympathetically. "alright. c'mon, we don't have any time to lose!" she laughed, earning a forced giggle from ariana.
so far, so good.
~
the two girls were seated in ariana's rather big backyard garden.
they were both laying on the grass, looking at the stars.
"y'know..." ariana started, glancing over at selena. "you never really talk about your love life with me, sel. why is that?" she asked, hoping the brunette would just confess already.
ariana could feel selena tense up.
"it really isn't that important. a-anyways, how's it going with your date with the prince?" selena asked.
hint #2;
a lier usually changes the subject.before ariana could respond, she could hear one of her maids voices coming from the backyard porch.
"Miss, your guest has arrived."
it's go time.
"please escort them here, thank you." ariana ordered politely, earning a nod from the maid.
"guest? i thought it was a sleepover between the two of us?" selena whispered, as if the guest would come out any second.
"oh, i'm sorry. But don't worry, i'm sure you'll like this guest." ariana whispered back, smirking.
"hey, ariana. why'd you want me to come ov-" he stood in his tracks, eyes widening as he saw who was seated next to ariana.
selena turned around frantically, facing the 'guest'.
"justin?"
"s-selena?"
