His Little Secret

Chapter Eleven

I watched as Negan picked the flesh from his bat, flicking it into the trash as he went, and I couldn't help but feel the need to vomit. He had just returned, and the both of us were now in his bedroom. He glanced up at me with a curious look in his eyes, "How did it go while I was gone?"

I blinked, taking a deep breath as I straightened up. "It went well; he didn't cause any problems." I replied softly as I met his gaze. He nodded slowly before going back to cleaning Lucille. "Are you hurt?" I asked him, and he seemed surprised as his movements paused and he looked up at me with a confused expression.

"You're worried?" he observed, though it came out more as a question, and when I nodded he set his bat down. He stood up, moving closer to me, and out of instinct I scooted back in my seat. He looked down at me, reaching out to brush some of my dark messy hair from my face. "You're the only one who ever seems to be concerned...."

I held his gaze, which was surprisingly soft compared to his normal hard look. "I care." I stated in a whisper, unable to find my voice. He tilted his head to the side, "Why?"
I shook my head quickly, not really sure myself. "I don't know...I just do. I know I'm not as important but...." I went silent, looking away.

He didn't say anything, just backed away and turned to head to the bathroom, the gentle moment gone. I let out a sigh before moving to look at my reflection in the mirror, frowning at the girl staring back. I wasn't the same as I was before; my skin was paler, eyes more hollow and my hair was longer, falling passed my elbows.

I heard the water turn on, and turned to face the bathroom door. I knew he'd want me to join him eventually, but I didn't have the energy, so instead I laid down on the bed. I closed my eyes, forcing myself to fall into dreamland.
