"Welcome, welcome!" Caroline called as she opened the front door, "Lena! Whoa, look how much you grew!"
"Haha, Thanks, Ms. Adam, you're also looking wonderful," Lena said and smiled. "Oh, dear, where is that son of mine!" Caroline laughed nervously.
"He's probably doing his very best to avoid me.." Lena muttered.
"Hey..." James said from the stairs, causing Lena to look up.
There eyes locked, her gorgeous blue eyes fell deep into his emerald green ones.
Something shifted between them.
'Whoa, what happened to ugly and annoying James?' Lena thought.
James smiled at Lena and walked down the rest of the stairs. Lena suddenly became self-conscious and tugged at her skirt. "Go on James, do as I told you earlier..." Caroline said nodding to her son, who hadn't taken his eyes off of Lena.
James grabbed Lena's hand and kissed it, "I'm glad your here, Lena." He recited as he's done since he could speak, but somehow, this time he meant it.
It was a ritual for the two of them to greet each other almost dramatically. Lena was used to James grabbing her hands or kissing her cheek. What came next was what was new to her.
"Can I help you with your bags?" James asked still looking at Lena.
"What? No, I can do it myself!" Lena said, picking it up, and going to a guest room that has always been hers.
"Lena, that wasn't necessary" Luke called after her.
"What's her problem!? I was just trying to help! Ah, forget it." Lena heard James say to his mom.
'I guess I didn't have to be that mean..' Lena thought as she entered her room. 'Well, he did seem to comment that you couldn't handle taking your bags on your own, how rude.' Lena shook the thoughts from her head and went to her bed, falling back into it, and letting out a breath. There was a small feeling inside her that made her feel frustrated. James wasn't attractive before, so why all the sudden did she feel nervous around him?
Was it nerves? Or was he just annoying?
"I'm not leaving this room." she said to herself.
There was a knock at her door.
"Lena? Hey, I'm sorry if I upset you, I was just trying to help, I-I'm sorry.."
It was James.
She paused for a moment before getting up and walking over to the door.
She opened it and stood looking at James.
She took it all in, his new hair, his tee-shirt that showed off his newly muscular arms, and his bright green eyes. That feeling inside of her grew.
"It's okay, I forgive you," Lena said and began to close the door, which James stopped with his arm.
"Lena. Please, can we just... work this out, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings-" he stammered finding his words. His eyes seemed to shift from her to the wall behind her. As if he couldn't look her in the eyes. 'Is he nervous?' She thought to herself.
"For seventeen years of my life?" She cut in. She moved her head to gain his attention again. Something in his eyes shimmered.
"I-I knows, that's really bad, but can't we try to work this out..? Please?"James looked like a sad puppy, which causes Lena to fall for it.
She hesitated, "FINE!" She finally said, "just stop with that face!" She laughed.
"What face? This one?" He's asked and crossed his eyes. Lena giggled, and shoved his shoulder gently, "No the sad puppy dog one!" She said still laughing. She tried not to think to much over the muscle she pushed against his chest.
"Okay, I will, but will you please walk down to the beach with me? I promise I won't push you into the waves," James asked as if he was begging.
Lena had never seen this side of James before, it was almost surprising, almost.
Lena hesitated, "Fine, give me a second to get my bathing suit on," She replied.
James grinned and left. She turned to get ready, and gently closed the door with her foot.
Gosh, what is this boy doing? She thought.
