James woke up blinking hard. He drove an hour and a half home late last night and he was exhausted. His room was still dim, light barely peaking through the drawn curtains.

"Ughh..." James groaned, and rolled over to his right side. He had to stop halfway on the way over because he realized there was another body next to his.

What the..

James started to panic and began to replay last night in his mind.

The drive home, the walk up the front steps, into the front door, all the way up to his bedroom, James leaning in for a kiss...

*Oh. My. God.* James thought to himself.

James slowly rolled the rest of the way over. Lena's long blonde hair flowed softly down her shoulders and her back as she laid on her right side facing away from James sighing softly in her sleep. Very easily James lifted the sheets. To his surprise and happiness, both he and Lena were fully dressed from the day before clothes.

James then remembers. Lena fell asleep on James's bed last night. Why move her, Lena was just so tired?

James just placed himself opposite her and fell asleep too.

"James...?" Lena let out shifting her body over to face his. They were now face to face.

"Yes, Lena?"

"I'm thirsty," Lena said and sat up, kicking the duvet off her body, and made her way out of his room and down the stairs to Lena's own bedroom.

James sighed to himself.

*Lena makes my heart pound... other things ache too* James thought.

James rolled himself out of bed and ran into his bathroom, turning on the shower and stripping down to get it.

Downstairs, Lena stood staring at herself in the mirror. *Why did I have to be so tired last night?* Lena thought to herself. *What if he took it the wrong way. I'm not ready to be at that point in our relationship... Is this a relationship?*

Lena sighed and brushed her fingers through her long hair. She turned on the shower and stripped to get in.

"James, didn't I tell ya? She loved it didn't she, my little Lena." Luke shook his head with pride.

"Yes sir, Lena really did enjoy it." Replied James.

It was now Sunday morning, after the two of them explored the pier and had fallen asleep within the same room, on the same bed.

The two seemed slightly distant.

James was sat across from Lena at the breakfast table, watching her read her book and shovel waffles into her mouth.

Lena glanced up at James and caught him staring, quickly looking over to her father to say, "It was splendid, and James even bought me some cotton candy!" Lena explained and returned to her book.

"That's what I like to hear. Gosh, my little girl's growing up!" Mr. Smith smiled and patted his daughter on the shoulder.

"Caroline, dear won't you join us?" Mr. Smith said suddenly, catching James's mother sneaking around the front room. "Not this morning Luke, I've got business to attend to at the county office today. Pardon my absence, we'll catch up later! Ta-ta." Ms. Adam slipped quickly out the front doors.

"Huh? It's Sunday, the office isn't open today...? MOM!" James called out to his mother following her outside.

~~~
Once outside, James saw his mother getting in the Mustang. "Mom!" James called for her. She glanced at her son and quickly placed her stuff in the passenger seat and put the car in reverse. Pulling out of the driveway, James watched his mom pull off in a hurry, and slowly turned back towards the house to walk in.
~~~

"James? What was that about?" Lena asked with a worrisome expression. "Oh it was nothing Lena, guess some type of emergency..." James shrugged off her curious expression. "What do you wanna do today?" James asked quickly attempting to change the subject.

While James grew up his mom and he had always been close. They would tell each other everything. This hurt James a little when his mother seemed to be hiding something from him.

"We can just go to the beach? August called and said he wanted to catch up," Lena said glancing at James, "Or we could always just watch a movie or something..."

"Well Lena dear, what do you wanna do?" Mr. Smith said looking over his reading glasses at Lena.

"Well I love being at the beach, would you be okay with that James? We could watch a movie later tonight if you wanted to?"

"Whatever you want, gorgeous," James said half-heartedly.

Lena's heart jumped in her chest when James spoke the words 'gorgeous'. *I really need to get these emotions in control...* Lena thought to herself.

*Why'd she have to wanna hang out with August... ugh... I know why he called; he just wanted to see her beautiful smile again... he can't have her she's mine!* James internally was kicking himself for letting them go.

"Okay! I'm gonna go get ready, call August back and tell him we're coming!" Lena said hopping from her seat and heading towards her room.

"Yeah, I will..." James sighed moving towards the phone. After a ring and a half, August picked up, "Lena, baby, you coming?"

This made James's blood boil. He cleared his throat before saying, "Yeah, bro, we're both coming, see ya soon," and with a quick move James hung up the phone.

* I swear August, I will kill you if you touch her again* James thought to himself about a few days ago when August was putting sun lotion on Lena.

James headed upstairs, to his room to get ready, dreading this beach trip.
