16. "I'll shout out a name, my name..."
---
(Third Person's POV)
The last thing Dazai could remember was seeing the face of the notorious Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
When he comes to his senses, he sees that he is tied to a chair, and moving around made no difference.
Any day but today.
Dazai lets out a loud groan as he looked around. This was different from his last time here. Last time, they had chained both his hands, but this time, they made sure he couldn't break free on his own.
The 22 year old could not get the thought out of his head that he had made a mistake that he should not have.
And that was having feelings for a girl.
After all, he wanted to commit a clean suicide. Why should he go ahead with life with some random girl?
But of course, Chiyo Kira wasn't just any random girl.
Chiyo Kira could break through any walls that approached her, and Dazai was in love with that.
And this was why he was mad.
Maybe not mad. More of upset.
Because she would lie to him about something.
And when Ranpo told him it was Akutagawa she went to meet out with, he could swear that he felt his heart come to a freeze.
'I will destroy you.' Was what Akutagawa had told him.
Well, if he ever does anything to Kira, that would destroy me alright.
And that, was why he was so mad.
Not at Kira, but at Akutagawa.
But then again, seeing her reminds him of it, and the rage that arises is surprising, even for Dazai himself.
He understood that she was free to do what she wanted... But he didn't want her to.
Dazai opens his eyes when he hears the sound of footsteps. The lock of the door opens and inside comes a boy wearing a black trench coat.
Yes, Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
"Cheh." He says, and Akutagawa closes the door shut.
"The weak should just die. So should you."
"I really don't have time for this so if you wanna kick me, go ahead. I have somewhere to be."
"You're so weak. Going around with the petty things in life. You left in the middle of a mission, and you're the biggest enemy to the Mafia. You're high if you think we'd let you off this time, Dazai-san."
"Yeah yeah yeah, save the crap."
Akutagawa walks up to Dazai and punches his face as hard as he could.
"You really resort to violence for everything, don't you?" Dazai whispers, earning another punch.
"Die, Dazai-san. You don't deserve to live." Akutagawa hisses, to which Dazai gives out a soft laugh.
"You can't choose whether I get to live or not, you filth."
It was as if whatever Dazai said only got him punches from Akutagawa.
"I wonder what that Kira sees in you anyway." The raven-head hisses, rubbing his knuckles.
This makes Dazai lift his head up. By now, the left side of his face was swollen, and the right side of his nose was bleeding.
"Don't you dare touch her."
"I'm going to ruin you, the way you ruined me."
Dazai struggles in his seat, but this time, Akutagawa had made sure he couldn't move a single muscle.
For once, Dazai was helpless.
"You think you can, but you can't get away with it." Dazai hisses. The 20 year old turns his back towards Dazai, and begins to walk away.
"Yeah, that's because you have that Ultra-Deduction guy, huh? Well, right about now, he'll be at the bottom of the ocean, drowning."
"Huh?!"
"You're stupid if you think the Port Mafia will leave holes in their missions, Dazai-san." Akutagawa glares at the man who is tied to a chair. Dazai could not think of one word to say, and his face displays horror.
Ranpo, drowning? And all because of the Mafia's enmity towards Dazai?
A ringing of a phone interrupts the conversation. Akutagawa makes a clacking noise before he picks up the phone.
"Hm. Why do you always interrupt things, Higuchi? Ah. Ahh... That's nice to know, I'm sure Dazai-san would love to know that." A slow smile spread on his face.
Akutagawa walks up to Dazai again, and puts a feet on Dazai's leg.
"That girl. She'll come to the Port Mafia. One day. We need her."
"What are you going to do to her?" Dazai whispers back. If his hands were free, they would be strangling the boy in front of him, that was a given.
"Well, I need to stop her from running everywhere and trying to find you."
Huh? Kira is trying to find me?
Even though I hurt her so much?
Seriously, that girl...
Dazai didn't know whether he should be happy, or worried. Of course, there wasn't anyone who knew what Akutagawa was capable of, more than Dazai himself.
"You know what, Dazai-san. Let's give you a nice choice."
Dazai was sure the choice would not be nice.
Of course.
"Either kill yourself, or we'll kill Kira."
The words were poison to his ears. And Akutagawa knew he had the upper hand this time.
Dazai was going down.
"Understood."
Akutagawa's eyes go wide. It was visible on Dazai's face, how much the girl meant to him, but he did not expect the man to agree so easily.
"You will not hurt her in any way. Any way. Ever."
"Sure sure." Akutagawa still cannot believe his ears.
"And let me make one last call to her. Then I'll go ahead." Dazai says.
"You better not be planning something, Dazai-san."
"Don't worry, I promise. So?" Akutagawa picks up the phone on Dazai's right pocket. After going through his contacts, he finds Kira's number and dials it in his own phone. He then lightly presses the phone to Dazai's ear.
"Thirty seconds." Akutagawa warns, and Dazai nods.
The brown-head could feel his heart shatter when she does not pick up the phone.
Was she okay? Did Akutagawa already do something to her?
"O-Once more."
"Heh. Guess she doesn't need you."
"One more." He begs. With disgust visible on his face, Akutagawa redials the number.
"Last chance." He warns, and Dazai gives an obedient nod.
Dazai knew for sure that he was screwed. And if Kira didn't pick up the phone, there wouldn't be anything that breaks his heart more.
"Hello?"
It was the voice that had soothed him.
The voice he was used to hearing first thing in the morning, and last thing before he slept. And every time in between.
"Kira-chan."
His voice comes out raspy.
He feels defeated, but invincible at the same time. Would that even make sense?
Would she even recognize my voice?
"Dazai?! Dazai, where are you? Dazai, come back, why did you leave me?"
Ah. This is soothing for my heart.
The way his name sounded when it came from her. That was soothing.
"Kira-chan." Dazai says again, when he hears her sobbing.
No, this isn't good.
"Dazai-san." She replies. A little smile spreads on Dazai's face.
This isn't good. God knows when Akutagawa will take the phone away.
He wanted to apologize. He wanted to tell her how comforting it felt when she hugged him. He wanted to tell her how happy her presence made him feel.
But he could manage out only one thing.
"Kira. I love you."
With that, Akutagawa moves the phone away and punches Dazai's face again. He then smashes the cellphone into pieces.
"What a weak person you are, Dazai-san. I definitely did not expect something as stupid as that from you. But then again, you're weak. I should have known."
"Heh." A murmur escapes from the brown-heads' bleeding lips, and Akutagawa's rage only increases.
"Tomorrow. Get ready, Dazai-san." Akutagawa hisses, and leaves the room, securely locking the door from behind.---
