"Yosano, why doesn't this go through the loop here?" Ranpo wants to know, pointing to the shirt he is wearing. Akiko rolls her eyes before she takes her black gloves off to help him put his coat on.
"It's almost time." Kunikida announces, walking into the room with Fukuzawa Yukichi.
"Is everyone ready?" The President of the Armed Detective Agency asks. The members nod softly, well aware of the fact that even the man, in his mid-forties, had done his fair share of crying.
"I'll wait to give you all a moment to come downstairs." The man adds, before he walks out.
As soon as he does, Naomi gets down on her knees, forming creases on the black dress she was wearing.
"This shouldn't have happened! Why didn't we stop them? WHY WASN'T ANYONE EVEN AWARE THAT THEY WERE MISSING?" She screams.
But because she was saying the things everyone else had been thinking themselves, nobody knew what to say in reply.
The entire Armed Detective Agency stood, staring at Naomi who tried to wipe her face and smudging the makeup she had on.
"Naomi, calm down." Tanizaki pats his sisters' hair.
"I regret it."
The voice is from Kunikida, and all eyes are set on him now.
"I regret not going with the two when they asked me to go with them, for coffee. I regret having talked to her only 3 times or so because of what a bad person I am. I regret hitting Dazai every time he spoke, I regret being so cruel."
The members watch as Kunikida fought with his will and spilled out what was running through his mind.
"I regret never thanking Dazai-san properly for saving me." Atsushi says.
"Me too." Tanizaki and Kenji's voice say in unison.
"I regret beating him up so many times..." Akiko has to say, and Ranpo glances to where the younger members had started to tear up.
"I regret not helping him out when he asked, most of them times." The lad says.
"I miss Kira-chan already." Kyouka says. "She was so happy with Dazai-san."
There is silence once again, amongst the members. Tanizaki helps Naomi up and she wipes her face with a tissue.
"I know we have all these regrets... But I don't thing Kira-chan and Dazai-san had any regrets with them." Kenji states. Silence spreads through the atmosphere again as everyone, who were all wearing black clothes, went on looking at the blond boy.
"You all saw the two on the ground, right?" He asks.
The members of the Armed Detective Agency are forced to get flashbacks of Dazai on the ground, his arms wrapped around Kira.
Dazai Osamu and Kira Chiyo met their ends the second Dazai's head slammed against the brick ground from a 22 floor building.
And they both died right in front of the entire members of the Armed Detective Agency, who were rushing to the Mafia when they tracked the two's whereabouts.
The ADA was under a minute late.
They all could remember clearly how it happened.
Dazai finally got his wish, to commit a double suicide with a beauty.
"Kira-chan... and Dazai-san. Both of them. They were both smiling. If they had regrets, that wouldn't have happened."
More silence spreads around until Kyouka sniffles and faces Atsushi.
"Let's go."
The group aimlessly made their way downstairs.
When they board off from the cars, they see Akutagawa Ryunoske, Nakahara Chuuya, and his sister Nakahara Akiya, who had all requested to attend the funeral themselves.
For the first time, there was no fight between the were-tiger and Rashomon-wielder. The two sat beside each other as the ceremony went on.
"I could have saved her... I could have saved him...." Atsushi can hear Akutagawa say. The white-head glances at the 20 year-old, who sat looking at the ground.
"I should have. I could have run there and used Rashomon. She... They both died right in front of my eyes."
"There wasn't anything you could do about it." Atsushi says, patting his back.
Chuuya and Akiya do not say a single word, even till the end of the ceremony.
And when it is finally time for the funeral to wrap up, the Ranpo takes Akiko's hand and the two eldest members of the ADA stand up, ready for the final preparations.
And even though they still looked formal and always ready to kick the butts of people who ever went on the wrong path, they would never, ever get over the fact that Dazai and Kira were no more.
Never.
