"Well, look who's finally come back." Stan said annoyed as the two Sphinx's entered the dinning room. Ford and Dipper had been in the woods all day, and that annoyed Stan. He was currently putting three whole turkeys in the oven for dinner.
"We meant to be home sooner, believe me, but time escaped us." Ford replied simply, sitting down at his place at the dinner table. Dipper sat down next to Mabel's pool, making her smile.
"Then maybe you should have brought a watch." Stan said. Ford made a small growl escape from his muzzle, but otherwise stayed quiet.
"So, what did you two do today?!" Mabel's energetic voice said a little nervously. She could sense the tension slowly growing in the room, and she was not going to see another fight break out between the two brothers. "Well, one thing that happened is Dippers leg seems to have fully healed."
As if confirming this, Dipper let out a small meow. "Awesome!" Mabel exclaimed excitedly.
"But I'll tell you about our little adventure in the woods now."
Excited to tell about what they had discovered, Ford began telling Mabel everything that had happened during their 'adventure' out in the woods. Most of what he said was boring, Stan merely rolled his eyes and started reading a newspaper, waiting for the timer on the oven to go off. To him, it couldn't go any slower. But Mabel perked up when a certain something was mentioned.
"Wait, you saw what?" she asked in a shocked voice.
"A crystal clear stream, with purple, diamond like rocks on the bottom. It seemed to sparkle in the sun, and the small sandbar on the shore was pure white." Ford said, adding a sort of theatrical element to his story.
Mabel's permanent smile grew wide. "That's so cool!" she exclaimed.
Stan scoffed, not seeing how a simple stream could be an interesting thing to talk about.
Finally, after twenty-four minutes of Fords rambling, (Which even Dipper was getting tired of now), the oven beeped.
"Thank the gods!" Stan exclaimed, slamming his newspaper down on the table, interrupting Ford mid-sentence. He opened the oven, and the tantalizing smell of fresh cooked meat filled the room.
Stan cut the turkeys, and everyone started to eat. Everything was quite while they ate, and before long all of the turkey was gone. After washing their plates, they all started to head to their rooms to get some shut eye. But then Mabel asked a question.
"Where is that stream you were talking about Ford?" Mabel asked before they all walked out of the room.
Ford looked at her weirdly, but seeing no harm telling, he told Mabel. "Three miles north of the Shack. Why?"
Mabel had an innocent smile on her face. "Oh, just curious."
Slightly confused, Ford made his way to the basement. Stan went to his room, with a quick 'goodnight' directed to the kids who were heading upstairs to their room.
Once there, Mabel immediately started to prepare her plan for action. She just had to see that stream! Trying to make herself as least obvious as possible, she started to pack her water proof backpack with everything she thought she would need. Then, all she had to do is wait for everyone to fall asleep.
Finally, when Mabel could hear the slow breaths of Dipper from the other side of the room, she put her plan into action.
She accidently left her outside use hamster ball outside earlier that day, so she wouldn't have a problem with transportation. Getting out of the Shack was going to be her biggest obstacle, though.
As quietly as a Mabel could, she slipped on her backpack and into her indoor hamster ball. Rolling over to the window, she decided it was her best bet if she wanted to get out quickly. Hopping out of her ball, she pulled herself onto the window sill and took a look around.
It was ten thirty at night, and the only source of light was the moon, which faintly glowed from behind the cloudy night sky. Crickets and other insects buzzed everywhere, and there was a slight breeze blowing. It was rather cold, but that wouldn't be a problem when Mabel got in her hamster ball.
She slowly pushed herself further out of the window, but stopped when she created a large creaking noise. Grimacing, she looked back to see if she woke Dipper. He was still sleeping like a log.
Breathing out a sigh of relief, Mabel made her way almost all the way out of the window. Then she realized there was nothing else to hang on to. A shocked expression over took her as she fell, bracing for the impact.
She landed flat on her face with a large thud. "Ow..." she moaned, but quickly got a hold of herself again. Mabel spotted her outside hamster ball, and managed to climb all the way to it. Climbing in, she found that the water was stale.
"Great..." she mumbled under her breath, but eventually got over it.
Getting out her compass, she headed North of the Shack, looking forward to seeing the beautiful waters.~~Time Skip to Arrival~~
Mabel felt as though she had been traveling for hours, but finally made it to the stream Ford was talking about. It was just as magnificent and Ford had described.
Even though it was extremely dark and hard to see, the streams waters still glittered, along with the purple diamonds on the bottom of the stream. The sand on the tiny sandbar was as white as paper. Mabel took out the sight with a open mouth.
She swam up to the stream, and took a closer look. With closer inspection, there seemed to be literal pieces of glitter floating in the water. The diamonds on the bottom had also changed too. Now instead of just purple, they changed to an array of colors.
As she was taking in the magnificent sight, however, she heard the smallest of twigs break behind her. She instantly spun around in alarm, looking to see where it had come from. After looking into the bushes and trees behind her and seeing nothing, she went back to admiring the beautiful stream.
But before long, another twig snapped behind her, closer than before. Now convinced that something was behind her, she whipped around and swam to the top of her hamster ball. Pulling out her grappling hook, she aimed it in the general direction of the noise. Waiting, she stared into the darkness, waiting for a horrible creature to come out of the shadows.
But her mind kept playing tricks on her. She thought she saw the smallest of movements in the corners of her vision. But when she turned to see what it was, it simply disappeared. Mabel's breathing started to get faster, and panic started to settle in. She started to sweat.
Then, just as she was about to head back, she heard more twigs and branches breaking. They were coming closer.
Mabel aimed her grappling hook at the spot where the bushes now started rustling, and with a shaky hand she put her finger on the trigger.
Then after what seemed like an eternity, a patch of tan fur came out of the bushes. Just as Mabel was about to shoot the creature, she caught a glimpse of what it was.
"Dipper?" she asked in a suprised tone.
Dipper looked to Mabel and let out a flurry of meows and whines. He was just waiting his nightshirt, and his wings were also slightly flapping. Dipper had a relieved look on his face, but he it looked as though something was worrying him.
He ran up to Mabel, got behind her and started to push her ball with all his might in the direction he came from.
"Dip, what's wrong? What are you doing? How did you find me?" She asked the Sphinx, suprised to see him at all.
In response, Dipper let out a loud meow. Before Mabel could say anything else to him, she found out why Dipper was acting so weird.
In the distance, she could hear the squawking of a bird. And even at the distance they were at, she could tell it was massive.
Dipper started to push harder, and now Mabel started to swim away too. Together, they ran through the forest, trying to get farther away from the gigantic bird like creature that was seemingly coming after them.
Although as fast as they ran, the creature kept getting closer. It was so close now that both of them could hear the flapping of huge wings.
Then, as they were dodging a tree, the huge creature landed in front of them. Dipper and Mabel came to a screeching stop, both staring at the creature with open mouths.
Standing in front of them was a Griffin the size of a truck. The eagle part of it was a golden brown, with a pointed, shimmering beak. It's eyes were a deep blue, and seemed to bore into their souls. The lion part of it was a light tan color with huge back claws. The talons were razor sharp, and dug into the ground with enough force to kill a monster.
Dipper stepped infront of Mabel in an effort to protect her, growling fiercely at the creature. His colorful wings flung up in an attempt to make him look more intimidating. But sadly, it didn't work.
The Griffin simply proceeded on the almost identical monsters, bloodlust in its eyes.
Without one doubt, it intended to kill them with no mercy. And by what was happening, it looked as though it was going to succeed at doing just that......OMG LOOK AT THAT IM NOT DEAD. Sorry for not updating sooner, but don't worry! School ends tomorrow for me, so I should be updating more frequently now. Have fun with this cliffhanger! ~BluePinetree
