"Alright, now try it one more time." Ford encouraged the youngster in front of him. The kid flapped their wings and scrunched their face in concentration, but they barely flew an inch off the ground.
The young cub then flopped on the ground, giving a low, angry growl.
"I'm never going to get this!" Dipper exclaimed, annoyed and frustrated that he couldn't even fly one foot off of the ground. Ford smiled at him, patient and confident that Dipper would accomplish this.
"You can do it. Just try not thinking about it too much, it should come naturally." With this, Dipper sighed, but got off of the ground to try again anyway.
"For once, I agree with Sixer." Stan said from the porch of the Mystery Shack. "When we learned, we were pushed off the roof of our house and then 'BOOM'!" Stan exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air, and accidently spilling the Pit Cola he had been drinking all over himself. But he didn't seem to notice.
Ford laughed at the fond memory that seemed terrifying at the time, but now was simply something to joke about. Mabel also laughed, but punched Stan playfully in the shoulder from the pink kiddie pool she was in. Dipper meanwhile didn't even crack a grin.
Mabel noticed this and looked at him with a huge grin. "C'mon Bro! I know you can do it!" she said to him, which didn't actually help Dipper feel more confident, but she liked to think that it did.
Dipper got into his hunched position, wings prepped for flight, and a determined look on his face. Taking a deep breath he leaped into the air and tried to flap his wings. And for a second, he was actually flying. He felt so happy he was flying, even just a little bit, he lost concentration, which resulted in him faceplanting into the ground.
Try as they might, Mabel and Stan couldn't keep from laughing. They were laughing so hard, in fact, both were wheezing out puffs of laughter.
Dipper once again growled in frustration, and stood up from the ground. He shook to get the dirt out of his fur, and looked angrily at Stan and Mabel.
"Hey Ford?" Dipper asked, not taking his eyes off of the two laughing messes. Ford hummed in response, looking at the two with a small smile on amusement.
"Can you throw me off the roof?" He asked. Ford let out a hearty chuckle, but then regained composure.
"No, I can't throw you off the roof." Dipper then looked to him, anger and disappointment evident in his cocoa eyes.
"Why not?" Ford sighed and started walking towards the edge of the woods.
"Because that is not the right way to learn. It works most of the time, but it's not the most ideal thing to do."
Dipper followed him to the edge of the woods and looked up at him, Mabel and Stans laugher slowly fading from existence. Soon all that could be heard was the wind rustling through the trees and the slight buzz of bugs.
"I don't get it," Dipper suddenly stated. "if flying is supposed to be natural, then why can't I do it?"
"It takes time. Even when our father threw us off the roof we still had to practice to master the ability of flight."
Dipper accepted the answer, and sighed a little bit in defeat. He had no problem practicing, but he just didn't want to figure out how to fly before he practiced.
"Dipper, I have to ask you something, and it's okay if you don't really want to answer." Ford said, eyes glued to the woods beyond. Dipper looked at him questionably.
"Okay." he answered, but a little unsure. What could Ford possibly want to know that would make him uncomfortable? Ford took a deep breath, and started the question.
"Do you know-" he started to ask, but stopped the question short, his ears suddenly going on alert. He started to sniff the air too, which was a bit odd for Dipper.
"Wha-" Dipper started to ask what was wrong, but Ford shushed him before he could. This made Dipper nervous, and he started to listen carefully to the surroundings.
At first, all he heard was the light wind in his ears, the rustling of the leaves, and the occasional bird that would chirp from the tree tops. Dipper smelled the air too, and all seemed normal, which raised more questions. But just as he was about to look to Ford for answers again, he heard it. And it almost froze him into shock.
In the distance, the maniacal cackle that haunted his dreams was coming ever closer. Dipper knew that this was inevitable, of course, but he thought that they all had a bit more time to find their bearings. After all, it had only been two weeks since Mabel got the letter.
But obviously that wasn't the case. And worst of all, it sounded as if it was closing distance. Fast.
"Inside. Now!" Ford yelled, and Dipper immediately obeyed. They both went running as fast as they could to the shack. Stan and Mabel heard Ford yell, and thought it was best if they got inside too, even though they couldn't hear what they were hearing.
Once they were all inside, Ford slammed the door shut, and cursed under his breath, pacing the gift shop floor.
"What the heck are you pacing about?" Stan said, crossing his arms. Ford merely growled in response, muttering under his breath something no one could hear.
Mabel looked to Dipper for aid, but was shocked to find Dipper almost paralyzed, staring off in the distance of the room. He looked absolutely terrified, and Mabel could only assume one thing.
"Bills out there, isn't he?" she asked, directing the question to Ford. He finally stopped pacing the room, looked at Mabel and sighed.
"Yes. And I'm afraid we don't have many defenses. I was working on a destabalizer in case this ever happened, but it's far from finished. And sadly the field that I put around the shack seems to not work anymore."
"So, what you're basically saying is we're basically defenseless against a shapeshifter of unknown power and a seeming hatred for Sphinx's?" Stan asked, a little suprised and angry that they didn't prepare better before.
"Yes" Ford answered simply. He also started pacing again. Dipper was still in the same place he was when he came in, but he seemed more concentrated now than when he entered the shack. Distressed seeing him that way, Mabel swam over and tried to comfort him.
"Dipper? You know that we'll protect you, right?" she asked, and now Dippers full attention was on her.
"Yeah. And that's what worries me the most." he answered sadly, which confused Mabel.
"What do you mean?"
Dipper sighed, and looked down at the floor, ears drooping.
"I lost one family that tried to protect me. I don't want to lose another."
That sentence broke Mabel's heart, and she leaned out of her hamster ball to place a hand on his shoulder.
"That won't happen," she stated confidently, which made Dipper look at her with a small smile. "We won't leave you alone. And that's a promise."
Dipper looked down again, but this time with with a smile.
"Thanks Mabel." Mabel smiled at him in return, and in that moment it felt that to her everything was going to be okay.
"But you won't have a choice." he stated suddenly. Mabel looked at him, worried and confused.
"What?" she asked, but found out before Dipper could answer. In one fluid motion, he opened and ran out the door, right into the open field in front of the shack. Everyone looked towards the door, and looked out in suprise.
"Dipper!" they all yelled, and started running out after him. But they were too late.
As Dipper was running, a giant black tail swept him off of his feet and straight into a tree, hard enough to break the base of the trunk.
They all gasped and looked up to find a triumphant looking Bill Cipher, circling in the air. He suddenly stopped, and looked down with a wicked smirk at the Pines family who were rushing to the injured cubs aid. This said cub was unloving at the base of the broken tree.
"Now this is something I didn't expect!" Bill exclaimed. His eye on his forehead glowed blue, and all of the Pines were enveloped in a blue casing, including Dipper, in which they were immobile. They all squirmed to get lose, but in vain. Bill laughed a spine chilling laugh in the face of the three conscious monster before him.
"Noble Pinetree sacrificing himself to save his new family. So sweet! Only for this family to be captured anyway!" Bill, thinking it was the funniest thing in the whole world, laughed like a phycopath. Ford and Stan growled at him in return.
But while Stan and Ford were focused on Bill, Mabel was focused on Dipper. She was hurriedly looking for any sign that he was still alive. And, to her relief, saw his chest softly rising and falling. Able to breath now that she knew he wasn't gone, she turned angrily towards Bill.
"You're a monster!" she yelled, knowing how childish it sounded, but couldn't think of anything else to say.
Bill, turning his attention towards her, snickered.
"What gave it away? The fact I am trying to kill people or being a dragon right now?" he said smuggly.
"Shut up you scaly demon! I'm gonna kill you for all the things you've put my family through!" Stan yelled, and roared at the end for dramatic effect.
"Oh, I'm so scared." Bill said, now seemingly bored with the conversation that was happening.
"Why." Ford said, which grabbed the attention of everyone that was conscious.
"Care to elaborate, Sixer?" Bill asked, now a bit more interested.
"Why do you want to kill him so bad? How does this benefit you in any way?" he asked, seemingly calm. But on the inside, he was full of hatred and anger.
"Same reason I want to kill you. Standing in my way. But I'm done with this small talk, as entertaining as its been. Let's just get to our destination." Bill answered, and snapped his fingers.
In an instant, all of them were on top of the Gravity Falls cliffs. Suddenly, the were all released from their casings, and dropped to the ground. Before they could do anything, however, they were imprisoned in triangle cages that shouted from the ground. All exept for Dipper, who somehow Bill still thought to be dead.
"What are we doing here?" Mabel asked, with Bill landing and looking out over the cliffs with a smile.
"We're here to get a good view for the show." Bill then turned to Ford, and slowly walked towards him. Ford and Stan both growled at him as he came closer. But before Bill could do what he had planned, they all heard a small whimper and groan.
Looking to the side, they saw Dipper, who was trying to get up onto his feet, which was obviously causing him pain.
"Hm." Bill said simply, and began to walk towards Dipper now. Ford, Mabel and Stan all grew increasingly worried with each step Bill took to get to Dipper.
"Leave him alone!" Mabel yelled.
"Don't you dare touch him!" Stan followed.
"Please, don't hurt him!" Ford pleaded.
But Bill merely ignored them. He kept moving toward Dipper, who was now on his feet, but his legs were shaking and his eyes were barely open. His face was scrunched up in pain.
As soon as Bill was close enough, he picked Dipper up in his claws and looked at him, no emotion showing on his face. Dipper feebly struggled to get free, trying to growl at the beast that was holding him.
Then, almost as casually as if he was throwing away candy wrapper he was done with, Bill threw Dipper off the edge of the cliff.
As Dipper disappeared off the face of the cliff, all of the Pines members yelled.
"Dipper!"
"No!"
But none of this concerned Bill. But he was interested when Ford spoke up.

"I'll make a deal with you!"
