Dipper ran through the woods in heaving breaths, quickly losing the energy he had recently gained from healing. He heaved air into his lungs and fast as he could. But it wasn't fast enough for him to keep running. Gradually, his sprint became a slow trot, then a fast walk.
His vision was blurring from lack of oxygen, and he kept seeing things that weren't there. The shadows from the sunset seemed to move on their own, contorting into shapes that seemed to be laughing at him. The shadows closed around him as his pace slowed even more, whispering to him.
Your pathetic. Why did you run away from your family? You hate them, don't you. Or maybe your just a coward, only thinking about yourself while your family could be dying.
These words and more the shadows repeated, making Dipper feel even more guilty. But in the back of his mind he knew he did the right thing. What good was he to his family, if they are even still alive, if he was dead?
Trying to ignore the shadows, he trudged forward into the forest, seemingly more determined than ever to do something. Anything.
But the farther Dipper walked, the ever present feeling of guilt grew. He wanted to help his family so badly, but by doing so, he abandoned them with a murderous phycopath. That isn't exactly what most people call heroic or sensible.
Eventually, he became so involved with his feeling of guilt he paid less attention to his surroundings. Dipper was unaware of the imminent danger stalking him from behind.
Dipper just kept walking and walking, still unsure where he was heading. Still unsure if he made the right decision. Then, finally giving in, he stopped walking and started to cry. More from fear than guilt, but the fact was he was still crying. And he was ashamed of himself for doing so.
Sure, he may be a kid, but his family needed him to be strong. And there he was in the woods, crying like the child he was, acting like he just lost his parents all over again.
But Dipper didn't have a long time before he had to snap out of his daze of self pity.
While he was crying, the creature that had been following him took that as its chance to attack. The little Sphinx barely had time to flutter out of the way before a huge, slender, gray arm tried to crush him.
After he got to a safe distance, he took a better look at the creature that was attacking him. And if one thing was a for sure fact, it was that the monsters was massive. It was almost as tall as the shack, and had gray papery looking skin. It wore some kind of fancy tuxedo with a red tie, and had four long, pointed appendages. It had no eyes, but it did have a mouth. And in its mouth where razor sharp teeth and a plethora of squirming tounges.
Dipper stared in shock and horror at the beast at it advanced closer to him. Finally, after the creature had started growling and hissing, the cub came to his senses. And he did the only thing he could thing to do. He ran.
But as he made a b-line for the woods behind him, a slimy wet substance wrapped around his right foot. Dipper tripped, and looked back only to realize, to his horror, the beast had wrapped one of its tounges around his leg. He tried his best to squirm free of its grasp, but was only pulled closer to the hissing monster.
And then, when Dipper was only inches away from being killed, all hope of saving his family lost, a ground splicing roar pierced through the air. There was only one thing Dipper could think of, and his heart almost fluttered at the thought. His family had come to save him.

Okay, okay, I know I said I would update soon a REALLY long time ago, but it's the holidays. I had to spend time with my family and put this aside for awhile. That being said, I would also like to apologize for the really short chapter. I felt like I needed to get something out for all of you to read! All that aside,  I hope all of you had a terrific holiday! (I know I did! Got "The Last Guardian" game and played it for hours!)

But, I have to ask all of you a question......would any of you be interested in reading a Young Justice/Robin book? Since this book is coming to a close soon, I thought it might be good if I expanded my horizons a little, and why not do it by doing a story about something that I have recently come to really enjoy! Let me know in the comments what you think, and maybe after this book I'll start that one! Happy Holidays and New Year!
